ZUMIX seeks an experienced Business Manager to oversee ZUMIX’s finances, facilities and administrative functions. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). 

Overview

Since 1991, ZUMIX has provided music, media & creative technology programs for youth ages 7-18 in the Greater Boston area. We provide out-of-school programs throughout the year including: songwriting, audio & video technology, community radio, and instrumental music instruction. ZUMIX’s goal is to foster young people’s personal development, artistic growth, civic engagement, and workforce development as well as to promote the 21st century skills needed to achieve success in college and career. The Business Manager at ZUMIX works closely with the Executive Director, Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Development Team to ensure the financial strength of the organization. We are looking for someone to make a minimum two-year commitment. This position offers exceptional opportunity for an individual with strong finance and accounting skills, a passion for youth development, and a strong love of music. The Business Manager is an integral part of ZUMIX’s management team, helping to maintain a strong organizational culture, create policy and make strategic decisions. Primary areas of responsibility include:

Financial

  • Responsible for all ZUMIX accounting activity, including bookkeeping, financial forecasting, strategizing and reporting.
  • Oversee all bank accounts and credit card statements
  • Annual budget development for overall operation and specific programs.
  • Yearly audit preparation.
  • Work with Executive Director and Treasurer to support and attend bi-monthly Board Finance Committee meetings.
  • Maintain Accounting systems (both paper and electronic)

Facility Management

  • Oversee building maintenance 
  • Hire & Liaise with Outside Contractors

Administration and Human Resources

  • Serve as support person for ZUMIX staff, helping generate reports, mailings etc.
  • Basic tracking of supply inventory and purchasing.
  • Responsible for oversight of business vendors (i.e. health & dental insurance, liability insurance, etc.)
  • Run and maintain CORI filings for all staff and volunteers
  • Maintain employee records, payroll and 403b records
  • Produce 1099s at year end for non-payroll staff
  • Manage Administrative Assistants

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional work experience in accounting/finance field
  • Expertise in nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in computer software (QuickBooks Online, Office Suite, Online Payroll, Vendor Platforms)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Excellent organizational skills and creativity
  • Belief in our mission. Love of youth and popular music
  • Good judgement, and a sense of humor 
  • Spanish language skills a plus!
