Part-Time (20-25 hours/week)

Summary of Organization: The Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition is a unified social action agency, fully committed to its ultimate goal: the eradication of homelessness with respect for the dignity and diversity of its membership, people experiencing homelessness and the community. Our Coalition works towards this goal by coordinating services, educating the public, and engaging in grassroots organizing and advocacy.

Summary of Program: Streetvibes is an entrepreneurship program that advocates for justice and builds community through excellent, award-winning reporting. Streetvibes reports on topics related to economics, civil rights, race, religion, gender, LGBTQIA, immigration, the environment, and the struggle to end homelessness and poverty. The printed newspaper version is published bi-weekly by the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition and primarily distributed by people who are, or once were without a home in exchange for a $2 donation.

Summary of Position: The Streetvibes Editor will produce a quality 16-page bi-weekly paper, maintain the Streetvibes website, cultivate a social media presence, strengthen the relationships among the Distributors within the community and the organization, and provide guidance to enhance distributor productivity and development. This is a part-time position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Produce a 16-page, bi-weekly newspaper
  2. Strategic planning of articles
  3. Compose independently-written, thought-provoking, and original articles
  4. Story and photography assignments to volunteers
  5. Story assessment and editing
  6. Highlight member organizations, their events, work, staff, job openings, and volunteer opportunities
  7. Maintain an updated resource page, and other paper assets
  8. Adhere to a set production format and schedule
  9. Work directly with layout manager to coordinate distribution to printer
  10. Create and post a local events calendar for Distributors
  11. Assist Director of Education with Streetvibes Shadow Activities
  12. Maintain database records of sales, Distributors, writers, supporters, articles, archives
  13. Solicit and supervise freelance writers, volunteers, and field-related interns
  14. Work with community members and member organizations to develop stories, ensure a diversity of voices, increase advertising, and improve sales
  15. Raise funds for operation of Streetvibes through working with other staff to seek and secure grants, donations, sponsorships, and paid advertisements
  16. Market paper to increase distribution
  17. Manage Streetvibes website and social media, answer inquiries
  18. Attend community events and newsworthy actions
  19. Submit timely quarterly and annual reports
  20. Plan annual Streetvibes fundraiser with assistance from staff and Board
  21. All other duties as assigned



  • Degree in Journalism or related field preferred (not required) or equivalent writing experience
  • Photography experience preferred
  • Writing and Editing Skills
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Wordpress, and Photoshop
  • Ability to delegate, organize, and hold others accountable
  • Ability to challenge through writing
  • Familiarity and passion for social justice especially the eradication of homelessness and poverty
  • Comfortable speaking in public, and with controversial issues and stances
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals
  • Ability to convert document file types and use Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of layout, design conventions, and image requirements for print

Working Conditions:

  • Supervised by Executive Director
  • Ability to work with and collaborate strategically with other staff in a busy work environment and multi-task
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Flexible schedule; some work on nights and weekends

Starting Wage: $16.84/hr
