Summary

As a member of the Resource Development & Communications team, the Development Specialist will coordinate fundraising and cultivation events, and manage a strategic corporate engagement program primarily focused on volunteer projects and corporate sponsorship opportunities. 


Responsibilities

  • Work with RDC Director to plan and manages logistics for fundraising events, including but not limited to: The annual Veterans Day Dinner, Legal Reception, Summer Concert, SF Pride and other cultivation events
  • Establish and monitor a yearly events budget
  • Serve as liaison for vendors servicing events and responsible for venue coordination, catering and securing in-kind donations as needed
  • Serve as primary contact for the Veterans Day Dinner Auction, including solicitation, donor communication and auction reconciliation and follow-up
  • Work with RDC director to solicit and engage with event sponsors, with a focus on new event sponsors
  • Maintain and order supplies for cultivation events
  • Manage a corporate volunteer program, serving as liaison with corporate partners and internal staff to foster volunteer engagement opportunities
  • Work with the RDC Director to strategically develop corporate partnerships and prospects through volunteer opportunities and conduct ongoing research on prospective corporate partners
  • Use Salesforce and other tools to track engagement, activities and opportunities with external partners
  • Spearhead conversations with program staff to develop an annual wish list and calendar of volunteer opportunities
  • Recruit volunteers from corporate and community partners to serve on-site or at cultivation events; train and manage volunteers (and internal staff as needed)
  • Work with Communications Manager to habitually promote volunteer opportunities and highlight corporate partnerships
  • Work with Communications Manager to develop and execute a volunteer appreciation campaign, with content aimed at transition from action to philanthropy
  • Other tasks and special projects as assigned by Director of RDC
  • Work with Development team to discover event sponsorship and corporate volunteer funding opportunities and complete applications as needed
  • Establish systems to track volunteer hours for matching grants and work with Individual Giving Associate to implement techniques to increase Workplace Giving
  • Prepare donor lists and reports as needed


Requirements

Education

  • Undergraduate degree

Experience

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working in a non-profit setting in a communications, outreach or development role or relevant experience

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with internal and external stakeholders
  • Meticulous attention to detail; takes pride in quality of work
  • Outstanding organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Cultural Humility Initiative
  • Ability to fulfill essential responsibilities within what would be considered reasonable accommodations
