Description

The Executive Director (ED) will function as the COO of the Woodbury Jewish Center and be the single “go to” staff resource for the President (a lay leader). He or she will operationalize and monitor our ongoing practice of the WJC values established by the BOT and the clergy. The ED will oversee every aspect of programming, operations, and engagement at the WJC. It will be his or her responsibility to strategically implement the vision of the BOT and the clergy, while interacting with both WJC staff in the various functional areas as well as associated Lay Leadership in these areas (e.g., Education, Finance, “House”, etc.).  The ED will also act as a “congregant concierge”, seeking to make sure the needs of each congregant are met professionally and efficiently by the WJC, and that all interactions that our congregants have with WJC staff are positive and productive.


The specific requirements of ED will include but not be limited to:

-      Supervising non-clergy staff (see proposed organization chart)

-      Maintaining WJC calendar

-      Evaluating and supporting all WJC programs

-      Regular communication with president, clergy, Lay Leadership and BOT

-      Supervising the creation, implementation, and evaluation of the budget prior to review by the Treasurer (Lay Leader) and the Finance Committee; includes presentation and discussion with BOT at the discretion of the Treasurer

-      Maintaining a work environment that meets the standards set forth in the WJC employee handbook

-      Optimize the use of Jvillage data base and website to ensure maximized engagement

-      Ordering and maintaining all necessary office supplies

-      Room reservations

-      Maintaining a strong working relationship with the caterer

-      Congregant concierge

-      Proficient in Microsoft Office

-      Experience with database management (Jvillage experience a huge plus!)

-      Knowledge of basic accounting principles

-      Basic understanding of Jewish calendar and customs


Suggested experience

-      BA or equivalent required

-      MBA, MPA, or equivalent highly recommended

-      2-3 years in non-profit management highly recommended
