he Thinkubator is looking for a short term, part-time Facilitator to facilitate a design thinking session of 10-25 youth aged 16-24. The Facilitator will support the participants through an already developed curriculum that uses the Design Thinking process to collaborate on a project with an external business, organization, or entrepreneur. 

We are looking for someone who is passionate, has significant experience teaching, and in addition, has a strong interest in social justice, education, design thinking, career mentorship, and their various points of intersection. This position will be remote with the expectation of running virtual sessions with participants including large group, small group, and 1:1 settings. 

Participants will work closely with each other to tackle a "challenge" posed by a local business. The participants will be supported on this task by the Facilitator (you), a Junior Co-Facilitator as well as a Mental Wellness Intern. During the course of their training/program, they will be expected to analyze the challenge posed by the business, research relevant data, develop innovative and culturally relevant solutions, and present a final presentation on those solutions by the end of the session.  The Facilitator will receive support from the Job Corps team including training and regular check-ins.

The Facilitator will provide a virtual space for interns that is centered on relationships and personal growth while developing design thinking and problem solving skills. The Facilitator will develop a modified virtual learning curriculum, facilitate ongoing learning sessions with the interns, support small group projects, and work with the The Thinkubator staff and other partner organizations to coordinate interactions with the external organization/professional. 

The Facilitator will receive a wage of $3,600 for their work during this program. This is a part-time, overtime-exempt, temporary position and not eligible for benefits.  This position will report to Max Rusike-Griffith (Assistant Director) and Luna Bella Avila (Youth and Alumni Engagement)

Project timeline:

Fall 2021 6-9 weeks, approximately 55-65 hours of facilitation

Core Responsibilities

  • Modify existing curriculum for a 55-65 hour virtual learning experience including creating digitized learning materials which could be slides, documents, videos, etc.
  • Implement modified Thinkubator curriculum for participants, aged 16-24.
  • Coordinate with The Thinkubator staff to plan interactions with an external organization/professional; 
  • Select and prepare guest speakers to share expertise with interns
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and organizational wide meetings including but not limited to initial Kick-off, self-guided research, and coaching and planning meetings with The Thinkubator staff.
  • Align curriculum with the interests and expertise of participants. 
  • Empower participants to think creatively and independently about their design thinking capacity, and ability to articulate thought-provoking and innovative concepts.
  • Mentor participants in regular 1:1 sessions to support their personal goals, socio-emotional learning and development in the internship.
  • Create and manage an ongoing communication channel that allows the Facilitator and participants to share information easily during the internship (could be via Google Chat, Microsoft Teams, Slack, etc). 
  • Act as the primary liaison between students and partners, ensuring they are maintaining professional levels of communication.
  • Meet regularly with Mental Wellness support team to align training and support

The Job Corps Facilitator should…

  • Have a firm grasp on Design Thinking process; 
  • Incorporate social justice pedagogy principles into their curriculum development and facilitation
  • Have experience building curriculum, teaching and/or facilitating for young people; 
  • Possess a keen ability provide constructive, and affirming feedback on student work; 
  • Preferably have their own independent artistic practice, and be willing to share key moments in their career trajectories with students; 
  • Be willing to lean into a space of 360° learning; taking student feedback into consideration as the program evolves and progresses. 
  • Bring their “own artistic spin” on facilitation and practice
  • Have interest and/or previous experience in providing diverse, equitable, and inclusive programming/training that is representative of our participants lived experiences

As the Job Corps Facilitator you can expect to… 

  • Facilitate virtual learning experiences daily;
  • Schedule and hold 1:1 mentoring sessions with participants;
  • Present and discuss design thinking activities concepts using interactive activities and methods, prioritizing intern success and growth;
  • Prepare digital materials for workshops;
  • Plan and facilitate working sessions for interns to organize and hone their final pitches and portfolios;
  • Support interns - along with a Junior Co-Facilitator and a Mental Wellness Intern- in documenting hours worked and any paperwork to receive payment
