Under the direction of the Program Teacher, the Program Teacher’s Aide will provide academic instruction and tutoring to students in the PAL Club afterschool program, will assist in engaging academic, enrichment and recreation activities with groups of up to 20 students in grades PS-5. Teacher’s Aide will provide opportunities for students to develop & strengthen academic, physical and social skills, PAL uses the human animal bond to help teach empathy and compassion in an exciting fun way using animals in the classroom in conjunction with our curriculum.
The teacher’s aide must either have experience maintaining a positive, upbeat relationship with children facing substantial socio-economic barriers to societal success that result in behavioral challenges such as a difficulty following directions, difficulty accepting no for an answer, and academic gaps in their knowledge base or a willingness demonstrate a willingness to gain those skills through feedback, personal initiative and/or supervision.
•Create a positive learning environment through the implementation of positive discipline techniques and classroom management. Understand and implement discipline policies. Request assistance from the programming director when needed.
•Assist organized learning activities for students to develop and strengthen their academic, physical,
and social skills.
•As needed, differentiate lessons and activities so they are appropriate to students with various abilities.
•Gain and demonstrate a working understanding of developmentally appropriate expectations and behaviors for the students in your classroom. Developmental guidelines available at:
•Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
•Instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.
•Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment.

•Participate in school site staff meetings and on-going training opportunities.
•Perform related duties as assigned.

• Will be hired through DCPS and work with PAL. You must be able to meet all required background checks, maintain TB clearance, etc as required by various

Hours may vary, generally from 2:30 to 6:30 Monday thru Friday
$15 per hour depending on ability to positively lead a classroom.
