Position Summary

The Membership and Technology Assistant is a key customer service position within the Membership Department, supporting the Member Relations Manager in member satisfaction, recruitment, and retention. The Membership and Technology Assistant plays an important role in management of customer service tickets as well as data management in the database.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Membership and Technology Assistant is responsible for the following activities to support efforts to grow Maryland Nonprofits’ membership base:

  • Make outbound recruitment and renewal phone calls to members and prospective members.
  • Make outbound phone calls for special projects such as collecting payments due for other departments, updating contact information on accounts, or extending invitations to special events.
  • Triage email inquiries and customer service chats in ZenDesk customer service system to answer questions, troubleshoot, or direct inquires to appropriate staff.
  • Serve as backup to Administrative Coordinator to answer phones and address inquiries related to membership, programs and services, events, and general topics. Direct calls to the appropriate staff person.
  • Using Salesforce database, process new and renewing memberships, send invoices, and take payments.
  • Assist in updating records in Salesforce database. Ensure that records in the database are accurate and complete.
  • Assist colleagues with database tasks such as updating subscriptions or running reports as needed.
  • Provide administrative support to membership department and other departments as needed.
  • Learn and maintain a strong working understanding of information on Maryland Nonprofits programs and services.
  • Actively participates in organization-wide efforts, including staff meetings, convenings, and special events. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • 1+ years of relevant customer service experience.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, customer service attitude, attention to detail, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, independently and/or as part of a team.
  • Must have excellent computer skills and be technologically adaptable and quick to learn new technology tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce or another database a plus.
  • Detail-oriented, extremely organized, and able to independently prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit sector a plus.

 

Work Environment, Physical Requirements, and Other Details:

  • Works remotely from home or in standard office building environment.
  • Works at a computer in a stationary position for sustained periods of time. Accommodations (e.g. standing desk, balance ball chair) can be made available.
  • Occasionally required to work hours outside of a standard 9 AM – 5 PM schedule for special events and programs (3-4 times a year)
