Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC (CIS-NYC) provides essential services to immigrants in the spirit of Mother Cabrini, patron saint of immigrants and founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. CIS-NYC serves all persons residing in the five boroughs of New York City regardless of age, race, ethnicity, political views, country of origin, physical ability, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or immigration status. CIS-NYC is seeking a temporary bilingual Social Worker who will conduct initial intakes or needs assessments and provide direct case management, supportive counseling, and crisis intervention to adult immigrants and families. The social worker will report directly to the agency Director and join an interdisciplinary team of lawyers, accredited representatives, social work interns, and legal volunteers.

This is a full-time, 35 hours weekly, temporary position, with a renewable contract for one year and possibility of becoming a permanent position. This role may be split in a hybrid schedule, half in-person (two or three days) and remote the rest, but will resume 100% in-person once the COVID-19 situation allows it.

The Social Worker should be trained in providing trauma-informed and strengths-based case management and supportive counseling. Services will be provided in three modalities; individual, family and group. He or she should also be interested in learning about immigration law to provide basic immigration intakes as needed. CIS-NYC will train the Social Worker in basics of immigration law.

The Social Worker will maintain a caseload of supportive counseling and case management, will provide crisis interventions, and will task supervise social work interns.

 

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Case Management and Supportive Counseling:

·          Provide direct services to community members including engagement, initial intakes or needs assessments, service plan development, information, referral, follow-up and advocacy around accessing essential social services when appropriate;

·          Conduct psychosocial assessments for participants who need supportive counseling services;

·          Provide supportive counseling services for a variety of needs including; anxiety, depression, homesickness, loneliness and isolation, and trauma due to pre, peri and post migration;

·          Organize and co-facilitate 10-week psychosocial support group twice a year;

·          Supervises MSW interns (task supervision);

·          Cultivate relationships with and maintain a directory of community-based social service, healthcare, mental health, education, and employment resources.

 

In collaboration with the Legal Services team:

·          Develop written psycho-social evaluations and service plans for submission to immigration courts or USCIS for legal clients as needed;

 

 Administrative and Other Responsibilities:

·          Prepare documents, reports, and statistics for all program-related activities;

·          Assist agency Development Director with research and writing as needed to develop grant proposals, reports, program overviews, etc. for the Social Services Program;

·          Conduct outreach for social services programs as needed. Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications and Skills

·          New York State Licensed Master’s in Social Work (LMSW), or eligible for license within six months of hire;

·          Social work experience with immigrant families;

·          Ability to take initiative and be proactive;

·          Demonstrated experience developing and implementing supportive counseling services, facilitating groups, and/or providing comprehensive case management;

·          Strong commitment to social justice and immigrant rights;

·          Ability, on some days, to work remotely via Zoom in a quiet, private home-office location required;

·          Ability to work independently with off-site supervision required;

·          Ability to provide culturally appropriate services that are individualized to client needs and reflect the integration of race, ethnicity, culture, primary language, immigration status, developmental status, criminal justice status, sexuality, age, and gender;

·          Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and analytical skills;

·          Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet deadlines;

·          Ability to move throughout the building and climb stairs.
