The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing and outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

1. Work with Board to fulfill the NAMI Northern Virginia mission. Communicate effectively with the Board and provide all information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions in a timely manner.

2. Build the NAMI Northern Virginia team including staff and volunteers. Manage their hiring/acquisition and development. Provide mentoring and guidance to individuals and the team.

3. Develop and deploy resources to ensure the fiscal health of the organization.

a. Work with Board to propose an annual budget and ensure that the organization operates within the approved budget.

b. Lead/oversee fundraising and development of resources necessary to support NAMI Northern Virginia’s mission to include the annual NAMIWalks, federated campaign, grants, etc.

4. Work with staff, Board and volunteers to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through quality programs and services and community outreach. Drive the organization towards the goal of meeting the NAMI Standards of Excellence.

5. Build and maintain partnerships with NAMI Virginia and NAMI National, local government agencies, corporate and local businesses, and other non-profit, professional, civic and private organizations to enhance the mission.

6. Serve as NAMI Northern Virginia’s primary spokesperson to the membership, the community and the media.

7. Oversee marketing and other communication efforts, to include maintenance of the website, the newsletter, publicity about special events, and communications with members.

8. Oversee and improve day-to-day operations through better processes, technology, standard operating procedures, etc.

9. Work with staff, Board, volunteers and stakeholders to create a strategic plan and set long term goals and priorities. Align programs and activities to the strategic plan, goals and priorities.

10. Support Program operation and development.
