    Description

    Founded in 2005, Community Youth Advance (founded as Mentoring to Manhood) was established to address the needs of Black boys in Prince George’s communities. The Lily Sisterhood program was initiated as an in-school lunchtime program in 2015 and branched into the community setting alongside Mentoring to Manhood in the fall of 2022. Starting with Saturday one-to-one mentoring, programming grew, adding tutoring, after-school programming, and family support services. Today, academics and mentoring programs are both component of Community Youth Advance. The organization serves more than 650 children and youth each year throughout Prince George's County and Washington, DC, during the school year and summer. Our mission is to harness the power of community to Teach, Reach, and Keep youth on the path to success.

    Full-time position: Director of Programs (DoP)

    30-40 hours’ weekly; Annual Salary $74,000-$81,000 depending on experience

    Reports to: Executive Director

    Hybrid (Hyattsville, MD, Prince George's County and Washington, DC)

    The DoP partners works with CYA’s staff, school site leaders, personal and community stakeholders to develop and maintain the overall implementation of the Academics & Mentoring Programs. This role includes but is not limited to:

    Recruitment & Engagement:

    • Recruit Site Leaders (schools), and additional staff for CYA Academics Programs:
      • Develop, implement, maintain and evaluate the recruitment strategies to led the site’s programing with includes staff, students, families/guardians enrolled at the sites
    • Recruit mentors (corporate), and volunteers for CYA Mentoring Programs:
      • Develop, implement, and evaluate recruitment strategies to increase the number of enrolled participants across programs

    Program Development, Coordination, and Management:

    • Create a motivating and rewarding environment that promotes an excellent program
    • Execute program goals with fidelity and credibility, while adapting the program to a local context and needs
    • Develops, designs, and implements, new programs, and curricula for CYA’s Academics & Mentoring programming in partnership with vendors with subject matter knowledge and experience
    • Provide ongoing input and feedback on program design and implementation to the program team
    • Develop systems and processes and create and maintain an internal calendar and project plan to ensure coordination, logistics, and project management for key Community Youth Advance functions, including technology and communications; reporting and compliance; and programming
    • Create, maintain, and update standard operating procedures
    • Works collaboratively and is flexible partnering with the key CYA staff on special projects and initiatives which furthers Community Youth Advance’s mission and performance

    Special Events Coordination:

    • Develops, designs, and implements, special events in conjunction with various CYA staff to include school staff
    • Responsible for designing a Mentor Training Workshop series; to train CYA mentors
      • 3 times a year: Several times a year:
        • Kick-off
        • Summer
        • Fall/Winter
    • Co-designs the annual CYA Mentoring Programs College Tour Designs the annual CYA College Tour Programs in partnership with vendors with subject matter knowledge and experience

    Human Resource Management:

    • Direct, plan, and coordinate the work of the program staff including the following:
      • Supervises CYA Academics & Mentoring Programs’ staff
      • Onboard new CYA Academics & Mentoring Program employees
      • Evaluates CYA Academics & Mentoring Programs’ staff; including performance appraisals, and goal-setting
      • Leads the professional development and training, and team-building opportunities
    • Implementation, continuous learning, and ongoing program staff development
    • Coach the performance of program team members and build a high-performing program team
    • Organize and facilitate weekly program meetings to maintain effective communication
    • Is responsible for selecting, hiring, coaching, and the performance management of the program staff with the assistance, coaching, support an of the Executive Director

    Partnerships Development & Management:

    • Develop partnerships and coordinate quality programming, leadership opportunities, and cultural experiences for students and program site staff
    • Guided by the Executive Director fosters and cultivates relationships with other partners and stakeholders’ programs to support strategies which formalizes cohesiveness among the local community partners
    • Maintain relationships with host site school administrators through frequent check-ins
    • Develop, operationalize, and implement compliance checklists, systems, and processes to ensure compliance
    • Organize, schedule, and document mandatory trainings as required by compliance
    • Coordinate physical sites for inspections
    • Develop, maintain, and update policies, procedures, and student and staff files and records
    • Manage information technology to ensure efficiency and productivity, including identifying solutions to address current challenges with an eye toward future needs
    • Manage and streamline vendors and contractors, including timely billing and invoicing
    • Organize and order office equipment, inventory, and supplies
    • Maintain space, including coordinating repairs and maintenance
    • Maintain, organize, and update organization share files, lists, and documents

    Program Evaluation:

    • Implement, manage, supervise, and evaluate all program activities
    • Develop an ongoing meeting schedule with CYA’s external evaluator share what’s working well, areas of improvement, and using data to ensure return on investments
    • Analyze trends in the program, identifying issues and developing and recommending solutions to the Executive Director
    • Compile, maintain, and report on the monthly, quarterly, and annual program statistics
    • Use data to test strategies and inform Community Youth Advance's business strategies
    • Ensure the timely and high-quality evaluation by program site staff of their students and program sites

    Financial Management:

    • Develop and track the overall operating budget for program expenditures for CYA’s Academics & Mentoring Programs
    • Responsibilities/task and areas may be realigned for program needs, after consultation with vendors with subject matter knowledge and experience. In partnership with the DoP, the final decision will be determined by the Executive Director

    Job Specifications and Qualifications:

    The DoP is a talented individual with leadership experience and a proven track record of leading teams to achieve ambitious results.

    • Passionate commitment to and alignment with Community Youth Advance's mission and culture
    • Associate Arts degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • 3 years of management and supervisory experience in an educational setting (to include afterschool and Out of School Time programming)
    • Detail-oriented, with strong planning and program development skills
    • Exceptional organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to think strategically and use data to inform processes to create efficient systems
    • Ability to develop, maintain and track budgets about $100,000 for multi sites and/or departments
    • Experience in the education and/or youth development field preferred (especially in under-resourced communities)
    • Experience in developing and coaching staff
    • Experience with middle and/or high school students in instructional planning and development
    • Skillful communicator is adept at motivating, inspiring, and conveying key points both verbally and in writing
    • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus and/or interested in learning Spanish
