One-Year Full Time College Affordability Advisor

The Project-Based College Affordability Advisor work directly with youth to help them navigate the process of finding and financing an affordable path to college.  Advisors receive in-depth training on college affordability to successfully support students. The One-Year Full time Project-Based College Affordability Advisor will provide virtual student support via our help desk platform for FAFSA completion, virtual FAFSA help events, and support through follow-up steps of the financial aid process. This role involves a range of partnerships and project work. 

The Project-Based College Affordability Advisor will work with students virtually using our innovative text-messaging platform and elevating support to Zoom or phone calls as necessary. 

This position requires a highly motivated individual with a passion for supporting youth, a commitment to continuous learning about navigating the college access and success process, someone who is comfortable working independently, and who enjoys leveraging data and technology to support student success. The successful applicant will be someone who is excited about making a real impact on the lives of young people, strives to put learning into action, and thrives on new challenges.

We are seeking applicants who would be willing to make at least a one-year commitment to this role and uAspire



Project-Based College Affordability Advising

  • Provide virtual advising based on uAspire's college affordability curriculum to young people in their senior year of high school and current college students.
  • Assist students in accurate completion of the FAFSA in addition to resource sharing for completion of other financial aid processes.
  • Maximize texting platform capabilities to foster strong advising relationships and rapport with students.
  • Identify and maximize opportunities to engage students via other tech and communication means such as Zoom when an elevation of support is required.
  • Work collaboratively with internal staff to share pertinent information and strategize about student progress.
  • Advocate for and coach students to engage with relevant individuals, offices, and resources to support their individual needs.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain detailed records in uAspire’s Salesforce database and texting platform to track student data and progress to project goals.
  • Develop and implement creative approaches to drive student engagement with the utilization of our financial aid help center and other resources.
  • Obtain feedback from students and their families who have used our help center via surveys.

Program Support

  • Organize, facilitate and assist(drive) with virtual events on content such as FAFSA completion for students and families.
  • Contribute to regionally specific research and resource gathering to improve knowledge for staff and promote efficiencies in serving our students.
  • Maintain positive and collaborative working relationships.
  • Support uAspire’s Program leadership by assisting with special projects as assigned.

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Able to quickly process dense amounts of information and turn it into clear action steps for students. Able to be responsive to students’ needs. Takes the initiative to translate student experience to best influence program design.
  • Positively engages with students, teammates, and partners both internal and external to uAspire.
  • Comfortable learning and/or using platforms such as Salesforce, in addition to daily platforms such as Google sheets, in order to efficiently and accurately complete work.
  • Excited to become an expert on college affordability and contribute to a learning environment in both formal and informal ways with proactive enthusiasm.
  • Knowledge of barriers faced by low-income, first generation college bound students, particularly students of color.  Desire to serve diverse high school and/or college populations from underrepresented communities.
  • Demonstrated experience building or supporting systems, policies, and practices that prioritize a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • Some college-going experience is required; degree attainment is optional.  
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts secondary and higher education desired
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Organizational skills and ability to plan in a fast-paced environment
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and interested in learning within a growing, entrepreneurial organization
  • Ability to work flexible hours that may include some evenings and occasional weekends due to virtual or school-based events
  • Proficiency with fundamental professional software: Google Mail/Docs, and Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as a part of a team.

WORK HOURS/SCHEDULE: This is a project-based position of one year. During the project period, advisors will work a 35 hour work week. 

ANTICIPATED START DATE: September, 2022 with expected one-year commitment in this role

COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $42,000 - $45,000. Salary commensurate with experience and education. 


STATUS: Non-exempt, full time


VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: All uAspire employees are required to be fully vaccinated. Proof of vaccination or proof of exemption for medical or religious reasons will be collected upon employee onboarding.
