Information Officer -- Communications Specialist (Lowell, MA)

NEIWPCC is a regional commission that helps the states of the Northeast preserve and advance water quality. We engage and convene water quality professionals and other interested parties from New England and New York to collaborate on water, wastewater, and environmental science challenges across the regions, ecosystems, and areas of expertise.

This individual will assist the Communications Division in researching, writing and editing content for multiple digital channels and print publications; compiling relevant photos and graphics, and managing the production process. You will also maintain assigned website pages to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate; create new content as needed; troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Additionally, you will co-manage NEIWPCC’s social media, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube, and explore adding other channels as appropriate. Finally, you will assess analytics and provide recommendations for the overall social media strategy as well as for specific campaigns. You will also provide additional editorial support to NEIWPCC staff when needed. Other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Manage assigned projects, develop and maintain production schedules, and effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders throughout NEIWPCC.

·        Develop content for NEIWPCC’s print and digital publications. Generate story ideas, research and write news and feature stories, website and social media content, and compile relevant photos and graphics. Coordinate with outside graphic designers, printers and vendors.

·        Write and edit content for NEIWPCC’s website, www.neiwpcc.org. Maintain assigned web pages to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate. Work with stakeholders to create new text as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve website problems and issues.

·        Co-manage and contribute content to NEIWPCC’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and explore other channels as appropriate. Assess analytics to ensure priorities are being met, leverage data and provide recommendations for the overall social media strategy as well as for specific campaigns. Identify insights to strengthen channel performance. Monitor trends in best practices, new tools and applications.

·        Coordinate the production of potential audiovisual projects such as videos and podcasts.

·        Provide editorial support and branding guidance to other staff members as needed.

·        Other duties as assigned.


RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field is required, and coursework and an interest in environmental issues a strong plus.

·        3+ years of professional work experience in the field above.

·        Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders across the divisions.

  • Ability to write concisely, express thoughts clearly and develop ideas in a logical sequence.
  • Comfortable working in a very collaborative environment and oriented toward getting things done; able to bring perspectives and ideas to the table while remaining open to those from others. Think and act in a broad cooperative style. Care deeply about the health and impact of the entire organization, not just the communications department.
  • Naturally prone to action with a focus toward continuous improvement.

·        Diplomatic and welcoming in their approach to others.

·        Inclusive and interested in helping others.

·        Capable of fostering and deserving of trust.

·        Accepts responsibility and is accountable for results.

·        Well-organized and highly motivated.

·        Strong research, writing and editing skills. Environmental background a plus.

·        A background in writing in a journalistic style.

·        A keen attention to detail.

·        The ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

·        Knowledge of graphic design and photography,

·        Experience with WordPress, Constant Contact and Canva a plus, but not required.

·        Ability to travel regionally when travel is permitted. A valid driver’s license and a private means of transportation must be available.
