Description

This full-time Health Navigator position is responsible for helping to increase access to quality mental health support for LGBTQ youth. This involves removing barriers within the healthcare and insurance provider system, to increasing awareness of resources with the creation of tools such as a working behavioral health resource guide. This position is also responsible for working with BAGLY staff to ensure appropriate internal referrals for existing services within BAGLY. 


Responsibilities and Duties

Under the direction of the Health Programs Manager, the Healthcare Navigator will work closely with BAGLY’s LICSW and peer leaders to coordinate and implement mental health programming as funded by Boston Children’s Hospital, which includes but is not limited to:


Participate in the Planning and Implementation of New Initiatives

  • Scheduling and coordinating different behavioral health therapy groups.
  • Scheduling and coordinating drop-in counseling services.
  • Working with Marketing & Development team to create outreach materials and increase enrollment in behavioral health groups
  • Implementation of program metrics to measure success of behavioral health groups.
  • Creation of a youth user friendly community resource manual


Direct Services: Health Insurance Enrollment

  • Assisting young individuals through the enrollment process for MassHealth, either through the online portal or over the phone.
  • Assisting young individuals with determining which MassHealth plan best fits their needs.
  • Helping young individuals attain, complete, and submit required paperwork for enrollment.
  • Performing supported referral work, and accompanying clients to service sites when appropriate, to address the full spectrum of client needs


Supervising a Peer Leader:

  • Supporting the peer leader in obtaining and analyzing stakeholder input
  • Supporting the peer leader in connecting their peers to BAGLY and supported referrals
  • Supporting the peer leader in designing and implementing peer-to-peer mental wellness group


Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to BAGLY’s mission and a cultural competency of LGBTQ issues, social justice principles, and youth leadership frameworks.
  • Strong skills or knowledge of MassHealth requirements and navigation.
  • Experience working with LGBTQ youth in a community center/ non-profit environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with navigating cash benefits and other systems such as Food Stamps, SSI, name change processes, etc.
  • Associate Degree or 2 years’ equivalent work experience required
  • Experience in community/coalition building, particularly with LGBTQ youth and communities of color
  • Valid US driver’s license and/or ability to travel throughout the state
  • Excellent organization, planning, and time management skills
  • Flexible schedule and availability evenings and some weekends
  • Familiarity with Boston’s Ballroom Community preferred
