Looking for a person with a deep commitment to helping create a more equitable city, who likes leading teams of volunteers and staff, is highly organized using analytical and technical skills, can manage multiple complex projects at one time, and is eager to creatively improve the organization and extend its impact.

--------------------------------------

We are One Community:

One Community is dedicated to make Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, Brooklyn a more equitable neighborhood. Acting with community partners, we initiate projects that immediately change people’s lives. Most of our clients live in local public housing. Some of our programs include:

1. Bike Path – We train people who have had contact with the criminal justice system and others with modest job prospects for well-paying union jobs as Citi Bike mechanics.

2. Sharing Network - This nationally recognized program addresses the damage chronic isolation and loneliness have on the emotional and cognitive health of seniors. It employs intimate conversation groups over the phone to replace isolation with complex, supportive new social circles. Participants meet in several of the groups per week. Trained volunteer moderators set a supportive tone across offerings including bible study, cooking, crochet, Latin music, art history, indoor gardening, politics, health and arts and crafts and many others. Among the moderators are educators from the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Garden, a music therapist, a cookbook author, and an eight-time Grammy Award winner.

3. Fresh Pantries - We address the issue of food insecurity by providing predictable, ample, nutritious, and appealing assortment of food to over 700 local families weekly.

4. Liftoffs – In support of the Mayor and the Kings County’s District Attorney’s violence reduction initiatives, we offer people 14-24 years of age an array of fun, interesting, and challenging summer opportunities. The intent is to foster alternatives to the mindsets and patterns of behavior that often lead to violence and other counter-productive outcomes.
