Since 1971, Hopelink has served homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities in the north and east King County, WA. With service centers in Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Shoreline and Sno-Valley (Carnation), we are the largest nonprofit organization in the area. Hopelink programs and services focus on five key areas: food, financial assistance, housing & family development, adult education & employment and transportation/mobility. Programs are aimed at helping people achieve stability, and helping them gain the skills and knowledge they need to exit poverty for good.



The Client Resource Specialist is one of the first points of contact at the Service Center’s Front Desk, and is responsible for warmly greeting and welcoming all visitors in a fast paced, often busy environment. They provide excellent customer service to clients, donors, visitors and staff, and are critical to ensure smooth operation of the center. This position requires the ability to multi-task, problem solve, be flexible, stay calm under pressure and deescalate issues when necessary. Must be comfortable working with individuals who demonstrate extreme or unpredictable behavior related to various kinds or crisis or trauma including substance abuse, mental health disorders, and/or homelessness. 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for warmly greeting all visitors at the front desk.
  • Interacts with participants, volunteers, and donors in person as well as over a multi-line phone, via email, and fax.
  • Maintains a friendly and welcoming environment for all guests; provides compassionate service that is trauma-informed with a participant-centered focus.
  • Has an ability to listen for understanding and de-escalate challenging or difficult situations as they arise.
  • Answers questions regarding services offered at the center, and makes internal and external referrals for services within the community.
  • Continuously updates knowledge of resources and referrals within the Puget Sound area and shares information amongst other members of the team.
  • Screens clients for services by asking questions to determine eligibility; If client appears to be eligible, schedules appointments.
  • Screens for, records, and administers Emergency Bus Tickets, Emergency Food Bags, Clothing vouchers, and children’s items from a partner agency.
  • Enrolls clients into the food bank and schedules them shopping appointments; assists with Summertime Food Renewals as needed.
  • Uses spreadsheets to track and maintain funding, creates monthly calendars, and prepares signage for center closures.
  • Schedules, organizes, and trains front desk interns and volunteers.
  • Performs general office duties such as opening and distributing mail, data entry, filing, copying, maintaining the lobby area and ordering office supplies.
  • Receives and receipts cash, checks and other donations.
  • Attends meetings and trainings both on-site and at other Hopelink locations.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with programs and departments within Hopelink and at partner organizations.
  • Maintains strict client confidentiality and adheres to Hopelink’s policies.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality is essential to our business and to this position, therefore access to reliable transportation is crucial.
  • Assists in other areas as needed, including working out of another service center to support the front desk if necessary.


Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years office experience with a busy, multi-line phone; preferably in a social service setting.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Spanish and Russian speaking skills highly desired.
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds on an occasional basis.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.


Licenses, Certificates and other requirements: 

  • Must pass criminal background check through the Washington State Patrol.
  • Must have reliable transportation in order to adhere to service critical employee attendance requirements.
