Position: Project Manager 

Department: Business Development Center 

Reports to: BDC Senior Director 

Salary: $60,000.00 

Hours: Full Time (35 hours weekly) 

FLSA: Exempt 

Position Summary: 

Union Settlement’s Business Development Center (BDC)is seeking a hard-working, energetic and committed individual, with a capacity to work both independently and in a team environment. This individual will assist/work with the BDC’s Senior Project Manager on deliverables connected to both the East Harlem Working Together (EHWT) and Buy Local (BL) projects and the East Harlem Community Alliance (EHCA), in order to continue promoting East Harlem and growing the local economy. This will include working with local businesses to identify and address needs and provide resources; working with anchor institutions to increase the volume of locally purchased goods and serving as liaison to the EHCA. 


● Develop, conduct and supervise surveys of the business community and shoppers. 

● Assist businesses in identifying and securing needed resources from the city, state or federal government, as well as from local financial institutions. 

● Work with BDC staff and businesses in developing, organizing and conducting events. 

● Work with local churches in developing and conducting Cash Mobs for local businesses. 

● Design, create and organize educational workshops and video clips in order to meet the identified needs of the business community. 

● Develop and/or assist in providing timely reports, as required. 

● Organize merchant meetings, as required. 

● Propose new ideas, activities and opportunities to enhance the visibility and profit margin of local businesses.

● Actively conduct outreach to the business and general community for participation in events and other deliverables (eg. Festivals, Neighborhood Cleaning Projects; Pop-up markets; etc.). 

● Provide Technical assistance and conduct training, as required. 

● Work with anchor institutions to assess purchasing needs. 

● Continue updating the Buy Local clearinghouse to match the purchase opportunities with local businesses. 

● Continue tracking and reporting on increases in local purchasing. 

● Compose and distribute newsletter. 

● Attend monthly Community Board 11 / Economic Development meetings. 

● Manage Buy Local social media accounts. 

● Oversee development of implementation of social media promotions for community events, including video production and distribution. 

● Maintain Mailchimp database of local merchants and vendors. 

● Work closely with the Buy East Harlem Committee of the East Harlem Community Alliance (“Alliance”), recruit local businesses to join the Alliance, and attend meetings of the Committee and the Alliance. 

● Represent the Senior Project Manager as necessary. 


● English/Spanish bilingual. 

● Minimum BA/BS degree and 2 years’ experience working with businesses. 

● Strong oral, written, organizational and problem-solving skills. 

● Knowledge of corporate purchasing policies and practices. 

● Ability to conduct personalized outreach to businesses. 

● Familiarity with East Harlem business preferred. 

● Familiarity with Mailchimp, Canva, Photoshop. 

● Ability to make oral presentations to corporate officials. 

● Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks. 

● Proficient computer skills, including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel. 

● Web development and social media marketing experience. 

● Knowledge of bank lending practices and familiarity with the Community Reinvestment Act would be preferred.
