Jewish World Watch is seeking a Director of Advocacy, Campaigns and Strategic Growth to develop and implement a strategic advocacy model for growth throughout the country focused on cultivating grassroots and grasstops leaders to effectively communicate to elected leaders and policy makers to amplify the urgency of addressing regions facing genocide and mass atrocity through creative campaigns that involve policy advocacy, legislative advocacy, community education, and organizing. 


The Director of Advocacy will work on the full range of Anti-Genocide issues including, but not limited to gender and sexual based violence, access to education, food insecurity, children as weapons of war and cultural erasure.  The Director of Advocacy will be supervised by the Executive Director, and will be based in Jewish World Watch’s Los Angeles office, but can also work remotely through the duration of the pandemic. Once the pandemic is over some travel is expected. 

Job Responsibilities: 

Organize development activities

  • Work with JWW staff in the planning and execution of special advocacy events including messaging training, meetings with elected officials and advocacy conferences and the annual Walk to End Genocide to optimize the funds generated for the organization. 
  • Identify and develop coalition, community and individual partners for the organization's campaign priorities. 
  • Develop advocacy targets and a strategic regional growth plan based on ideal elected partners and regional conditions.  Prepare regular reports on progress related to elected officials' movements on issues related to JWW’s work portfolio.  
  • The Director of Advocacy will also work with JWW’s Director of Education to promote volunteer and member participation in priority campaigns; build an active, diverse, and inclusive base of volunteers and supporters who can be mobilized to participate in meetings, forums, rallies, hearings, lobby visits and delegations;
  • The  Director of Advocacy will work with colleagues to implement a leadership ladder of engagement, constituent relationship management and intersectional issue organizing tools (trainings and briefings) to increase membership power 
  • The Director of Advocacy will plan and execute grassroots and advocacy campaigns to effect changes at the national (and sometimes local) levels and cultivate strategic partnerships with organizational allies and relationships with lawmakers to advance policy objectives.

 Qualifications: 

 At least 5-7 years of organizing, campaign, and/or advocacy experience; individuals with more experience are encouraged to apply. In depth knowledge of the craft of grassroots organizing and the national political system. Prior experience and/or demonstrated ability in developing, training and cultivating volunteers. • In depth knowledge of the craft of grassroots organizing and the political system. Experience implementing a successful grassroots, field and/or legislative advocacy campaign at the city/county, state and/or federal level. Experience planning and facilitating workshops, trainings, meetings, and other community events. Experience developing and implementing organizing and/or policy campaigns to make reforms. Experience working effectively with coalitions and building coalitions. • Demonstrated effectiveness in using the media; excellent oral and written communication skills. • Knowledge and proficiency of Jewish Communal norms a plus. • Some travel required. 

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary is $60,000-$75,000
