ALearn’s summer Math Acceleration Program (MAP) helps students improve their pre-algebra skills and starts them on a path to college. Over 19 days, students engage in hands-on math activities, Khan Academy exercises, interactive games, a field trip to a local four-year university, and events such as the College Inspiration Event to build a college-going culture and prepare for success in math classes in the fall. District teachers lead the classrooms with the support of college student teaching assistants. ALearn is currently recruiting teachers for MAP 2018. 


Deliver math curriculum to classroom of 25-30 students entering 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade

Administer pre- and post-assessments and attitudinal surveys

Facilitate individual Khan Academy work time and group math games

Manage teaching assistant

Attend college and celebration events with students, listed below


Time commitment

Mid-June to Late-July, 2018, M-F, 8am-12pm, No class on July 4th

2-3 days of paid professional development before class starts

19 class days, 4 hours/day

1 field trip, during or after class

1 College Inspiration Program, usually in the evening

1 End-of-Program Celebration, usually in the evening
