Lincoln School, founded in 1884, is an independent K-12 Quaker girls’ school in Providence, Rhode  Island. We are seeking applicants for a Middle and Upper School Learning Skills Specialist beginning in September 2021. The Learning Skills Specialist, is a member of the teaching faculty, and works with faculty, Division Directors, the Dean of Students, and the School Psychologist to monitor the academic progress of all students and to offer individualized support to specific students on an ongoing basis. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support students by providing learning strategies, executive functioning coaching, and course-specific tutoring for students in one-on-one or small group settings
  • Coordinate implementation of student academic support and learning plans in consultation with the Division Directors
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure comprehensive support to students with learning differences
  • Serve as an advocate for students with documented needs
  • Coordinate with and support external tutors
  • Coordinate the College Board & ACT accommodations application process 
  • Coordinate referrals for outside evaluations, and interpret reports and results from outside evaluation professionals 
  • Develop partnerships with students, families, and the school, including collaboration with the Admission team
  • Serves as a Middle School advisor and engage in schoolwide community activities including attending school functions, admissions events, student clubs, and community curriculum days

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a passion for teaching and learning from young people and a desire to work collaboratively with students and support faculty by providing resources and training to help faculty meet the needs of diverse learners. Teachers at Lincoln maintain a reflective  practice that involves collaboration and critical dialogue with colleagues and division leadership  about their teaching, they embrace and uphold Lincoln's values of diversity, equity and inclusion, and they bring anti-racist practices into their classroom. 

  • Qualified candidates will have a strong background in the most up to date pedagogy and will have a strong belief in the growth mindset of all students
  • A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is strongly preferred. Degrees in disciplines such as Special Education or Psychiatry/Psychology are preferred, with an ability to support students in both Language Arts and Math
  • Ideal candidates will have three to five years of experience teaching and/or serving as a Learning Skills Specialist at the Middle and Upper School levels
  • Experience administering and/or interpreting neuropsychological testing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with educational assistive technology, Google Classroom
