About Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB) 

GIB is a Swiss foundation based in Basel active since 2008. GIB’s vision is a world in which investments in social, economic and physical infrastructure lead to inclusive, sustainable and resilient communities and ecosystems. We work towards this vision through a plethora of projects and programs which include: capacity building and training workshops, global development and implementation of the SuRe® Standard in different projects, managing a network of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) international actors, organizing event, webinars, workshops and developing tailored made solutions for different stakeholders.  

GIB is managed by ecos, a Swiss sustainability consulting company for sustainability affairs based in Basel, Switzerland. Therefore, the selected candidate will hold a legal employment contract with ecos. 

If selected for this job, you will join a small, dynamic and multidisciplinary team of professionals working at the forefront of global sustainable and resilient infrastructure theory and practice. At the same time, you will be working with several global partners in a new Program.  

 

Job Profile 

  • Type: Short-term contract (1 year, renewal possible. Subject to 3-month trial period) 
  • Start date: 15 June 2021 or by mutual agreement 
  • Location: Basel, Switzerland (normally office-based, however, mixed office/home office depending on COVID-19 situation). 
  • Duration: 1 year 
  • Percentage: 80% 
  • Travel required? : no travel required during COVID-19, some travel may be required after COVID-19 measures are lifted. 
  • Deadline for applications: Monday, 31st May CET.  
  • Other requirements: A Swiss work permit or EU citizenship is a requirement.  

 

About the position – Jr. Program Officer (80%) 

 

As part of our new Global Program, we are looking to build up a strong team that will work with a wide range of actors. We are looking for a strong-culturally aware individual who is passionate about safety, urban development and youth engagement to support our efforts.  

As part of this position, you will support the Global Program Manager in different monitoring, planning, reporting and administrative tasks.

Your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Coordinating the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning (MEL) and data collection with the selected partner and the program management. This includes but is not limited to: co-development and monitoring of KPIs, preparing necessary log-frames or reports together with the selected partner. Support the internal data collection process and the learning processes.  
  • Coordinating the program website development and maintenance with the selected partners. 
  • Coordinating the development and implementation of the program communication strategy with all selected partners. This includes but is not limited to: graphic design, social media, document design, preparation of communication pieces around the program, presentations, MEL and other events.  
  • Coordinating the organizations of meetings, roundtables and events with selected partners (including logistics, communication, data, follow-up). 
  • Support the global program manager in the creation of the program documents, presentations, and policies (content, formatting, document control).  
  • Support the global program manager (together with the financial and legal officer) in fund allocation, contract and disbursement processes.  
  • Support the global program manager in finding co-funding opportunities, proposals writing.  
  • Coordinating travel arrangements with admin. and relevant partners.  
  • Supporting the global program manager in administrative tasks (minute taking, schedule & calendar management).  

 

 You meet the following professional criteria: 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • An advanced university degree in a related field (at least BA, MA preferred): e.g. engineering, business, management, sustainability, urban development. 
  • Excellent oral and written English. Must be equal or equivalent to C2 level. Cambridge or TOEFL IBT, official proof an advantage.  
  • Proficiency in another of the following languages: French, Spanish, Bahasa, Vietnamese.  
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in: global programs, MEL, urban development or similar. 
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation: KPIs, formulas, tracking, measuring.  
  • Experience in data management, MEL methodologies (quantitative, qualitative). 
  • Microsoft office expertise should be above normal user-level (managing Excel formulas, charts, pivot tables and other functions with ease; smart formatting, in Word and excellent power point presentation skills). This skill will be tested during the interview process.  
  • Experience in writing reports, policies, budgeting is an advantage.  
  • Experience in youth engagement, safety and security, participatory and system processes is a strong advantage. 
  • Experience in and NGO, international organizations or similar is an advantage. However, private sector engagement or working at the city administration level is also an advantage.
