The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) is the largest nonprofit organization leading the world in innovative research to improve the lives of those living with lupus today and to prevent and cure lupus tomorrow. The Alliance has created an affiliate, Lupus Therapeutics LLC (LT), to manage its clinical trial program and a Lupus Clinical Investigators’ Network (LuCIN) to facilitate the clinical study of new and existing therapies to treat, cure, and ultimately prevent lupus.

Position Overview

Lupus Therapeutics, in conjunction with the Lupus Research Alliance is seeking a proactive, professional, detail-oriented, personable individual to assist with all patient engagement, education, and health equity programs and projects. This candidate will assist the Manager, Patient Engagement with coordination and management of multiple projects and initiatives.  Programs and initiatives this individual will work on include, but are not limited to the following:

·        Patient Advocate for Lupus Studies (PALS), a peer support end education program focused on lupus clinical trial education

·        Patient Advisory Boards, which we conduct in partnership with pharmaceutical companies to ensure that diverse patient voices are incorporated into study design and execution as early as possible

·        Patient Protocol Council, a new initiative aimed at developing a council of individuals living with lupus who can review pharmaceutical protocol’s and provide feedback

·        Clinical Trial Awareness and Education Initiatives, which will be conducted in collaboration with the LRA Communications and Advocacy team and include webinars, video production, material development, and community outreach events.

·        Health equity efforts, including assisting with a new program, the LRA CHANGE Project (Community-Based Health Action network to Generate Trial Participation and Eliminate Disparities) which seeks to save lives of people with lupus through an inclusive approach to access to lupus clinical trials. 

Primary Responsibilities

·        Supports Manager, Patient Engagement with coordination and management of all patient engagement programs and activities described above including survey development and data management of responses, participant screening, and administrative duties as assigned.

·        Assist with the review of Discussion Guides for focus groups and review of reports generated from such activities. 

·        Assist with the coordination of education events and the development of education materials

·        Conduct community outreach and build trust and relationships with individuals living with lupus


Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s required

·        Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in a relevant topic area, such as public health, sociology, community engagement, or healthcare

·        

·        Individual must be compassionate, empathetic, and comfortable speaking to individuals with a chronic disease and from a wide variety of backgrounds.  Experience working with individuals from diverse communities is a plus.

·        The candidate should have an interest in and understanding of the social determinants of health, health equity and understand how larger systems contribute to health disparities. 

Skills:

·        Microsoft Office proficient, with an emphasis on Excel. Knowledge of Access is a plus. 

·        Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities

·        Survey development, including online Survey Tools such as Survey Monkey and querying survey results.

·        Data management, including managing small databases with sensitive data

·        Facilitation experience and/or discussion guide development a plus

·        Familiarity with Community-Based Participatory Research and/or a Racial Equity lens preferred, but are not required

·        Familiarity with Zoom and Microsoft Teams is preferred
