A House on Beekman is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Assistant Director for the 2018-19 school year. This person will work closely with the Early Childhood Director, creating and maintaining a positive learning environment for all families. The Assistant Director will oversee and maintain the Early Childhood Center’s operational systems, budgeting, ordering, scheduling, and staffing protocols as well as assuming all leadership responsibilities and duties when the Director is offsite.  In addition, this position will oversee communicatSion with NYC agencies such as the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Child and Adult Care Food Program. Operational staff (food services, after care leaders, floating assistants) will report directly to this position.

Additional Responsibilities include:

*Oversee substitute teacher system

*Oversee scheduling and clearance of volunteers

*Assist teachers/director with managing behavior challenges

*Supervise closing staff and ensure building is secure at the end of each day

*Conduct tours and provide interested families with information about our program

*Assist Director with enrollment process

*Plan and coordinate center-wide field trips

*Understand and assist staff members with developmentally appropriate practice in Early Childhood Education

*Implement and supervise staff members with organizational policies and procedures such as fire drills, crisis management, accident reports, etc.

*Assist and accept responsibility in other temporary daily center duties in the event that other personnel are not available

Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, must possess outstanding organizational skills including attention to detail, and must be comfortable communicating with children and adults in a friendly, professional manner. Candidates should be flexible, positive, and comfortable dealing with conflict and challenges.

Minimum qualifications for this position include:

*Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field (Master’s Degree preferred)

*New York State Teacher Certification

*3-5 years of classroom experience working with children ages 2-8

*Preferred 1-2 years experience in a leadership/supervisory role (team leader, instructional coach, etc.)

*Computer Literacy and knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software

*Aligns with the vision, mission and educational philosophy of A House on Beekman

Level of Language Proficiency

Spanish speaker a plus
