Cool Culture is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Programs to lead our We Are All Curators Program for Educators. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, curriculum development, executing and facilitating a series of workshops for over 200 educators, collaborating with museum partners, supporting program evaluation efforts, and overseeing school enrollment and family registration.

Founded in 1999, Cool Culture’s mission is to amplify the voices of families and strengthen the power of historically marginalized communities through engagement with art and culture, both within cultural institutions and beyond. The foundation of our programs is the Citywide Cultural Access Program which annually provides over 50,000 Cool Culture families with free, unlimited access to more than 90 cultural institutions through our partnerships with 450 Early Childhood Centers and Department of Education schools, each year. Cool Culture programs center upon art, cultural engagement, and social justice as a channel for:

●       Building awareness and inclusion

●       Strengthening family engagement

●       Stimulating early childhood education

●       Activating leadership within our communities

We Are All Curators Program (Curators) uses the concept of curation of objects in a museum or at home to help educators and families demystify artistic and curatorial methods, expand perceptions of who creates and exhibits art, and identify creative applications in everyday life.

The program has two strands: 1) We Are All Curators for Educators, provides education partners with professional development training to engage families in their schools; and 2) We Are All Curators Family Program, works directly with families using our neighborhood-based model. The program is a culturally specific approach for supporting the personal development of families and professional development of educators from historically marginalized communities, including people who are African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, and Native American (ALAANA).

The role centers on creating professional development experiences that will build relationships, support a family engagement practice centered in social justice values and progressive educational models and that fosters strong relationships between families, educators, and museum professionals in their community.

At Cool Culture, we are a small and resourceful team that wear multiple hats. In order to be successful in this role, a person will:

1)    Have strong project management and program evaluation skills

2)   Have extensive experience working with historically marginalized communities, educators, and families with demonstrated experience working on issues of cultural equity and social justice initiatives
