About the Position: AIE and APLI Manager


Young Audiences is seeking a highly motivated and creative candidate to manage the Artists in Education Residency Grant Program (AIE) and the Arts Professional Learning Institute (APLI). These programs are carried out through a partnership between Young Audiences and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. The AIE and APLI Manager understands arts education—both how arts are currently integrated in schools and how professional teaching artists and arts educators contribute to a complete education. Candidate must have an abiding belief and passionate commitment to the value and need for arts education in students’ lives—from child to adult.


The AIE and APLI Manager reports to the co-directors at Young Audiences and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and works closely with the program staff from partner organizations which include: Appel Farm Arts and Music Campus, Count Basie Center for the Arts, Morris Arts, Young Audiences, and other regional partners. Because of the many partners involved in the program, strong organizational, communication (both verbal and written), and collaborative skills are essential. This position requires working with a remote team, providing guidance, support and technical assistance with colleagues and school partners. Flexibility, collaboration, consistency, and clarity of communication are keys to success.


A successful candidate has a track record of successful arts education project management, adhering to budgetary constraints and deadlines, and has experience developing and supporting adult learning initiatives. A successful candidate understands the needs of a grants application and review process, and is committed to adhering to deadlines, and program guidelines.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Program management (60%):

  • Establishes goals, program objectives and operational plans with the co-directors and staff
  • Reviews and evaluates the performance of AIE and APLI, using assessment tools and ongoing communication with partners and constituents
  • Modifies and improves programming, integrating feedback from constituents
  • Maintains communication with AIE partner staff, school staff and teaching artists to ensure integrity of and support for the program
  • Maintains communication with the APLI cohort, partner organizations and leadership staff
  • Develops and facilitates APLI session content with collaborative partners
  • Oversees, plans and implements events, including professional development for teaching artists and teachers, orientations and culminating events


Grants Management (25%):

  • Manage all aspects of the AIE school grant application and panel review process, including providing technical assistance to school applicants and reviewing applications for completion
  • Because AIE and APLI programs are grant funded, the AIE & APLI Manager collaborates with the YA development staff to complete grant-related requirements including grant writing, reporting, budgeting and evaluation


Marketing and Outreach (10%):

  • Represent AIE and APLI to the public through relationships with teachers, school administrators, teaching artists, funders, statewide partnerships, and school communities
  • Collaborate with the YA marketing staff, and NJSCA communications staff for marketing and outreach efforts
  • Manage social media, web content (Wordpress, Squarespace), and e-mail marketing (Constant Contact) in collaboration with YA marketing and technology staff


Financial Oversight (5%):

  • Monitor program budget, ensuring adequacy of funds and appropriate spending
  • Collaborates with YA Finance Director to ensure the adequacy and integrity of the financial operations of AIE and APLI including stewardship of donor and state grant dollars


QUALIFICATIONS


  • 5+ years of experience in arts education administration, professional learning, adult learning and/or other relevant experience
  • Possess a collegial and collaborative spirit, display flexibility and prioritize effectively
  • Demonstrate the capacity to work effectively with co-directors, collaborate with staff and oversee the operational and financial well-being of a program
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of and the ability to work fluidly with technology including MS Office Suite with advanced Excel skills and social media
  • Knowledge of grant reporting systems is a plus, as is experience in writing successful grant proposals
  • Knowledge of web platforms such as WordPress and Squarespace is a plus

How to Apply

Due to safety precautions, and the need for this position to interface with two work environments (YA and NJSCA) and collaborative partners, this position will be fully remote through June 2022, with in person meetings occuring as needed, and as safety protocols allow. When safety guidelines allow in-school visits, the ability to travel to AIE schools and APLI events throughout New Jersey is required. Mileage is reimbursed.
