Grand St. Settlement empowers low-income and immigrant New Yorkers with services that help them strengthen and thrive. We have been doing this for over 100 years. Since 2015, we have grown to become a $40-million-plus organization, serving over 15,000 New York families at 37 community centers and school-based sites across Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our 500 employees advocate for the Grand Street model: we meet community needs by building community strengths.

We are looking for a dynamic Manager of Community Relations to join our team.

JOB SUMMARY:

You will develop, create, and maintain partnerships across the agency and with outside stakeholders. You will be responsible for establishing, building, and maintaining relationships with foundations, corporations, and other institutional donors in partnership with our Institutional Giving team.

You will work closely with the Managing Director of Development and Communications, and in close coordination with other departments including Operations, HR, Early Childhood, Youth, and Senior programs–and our Capital Projects team–to forge and strengthen internal and community partnerships. You will interface internally with staff and will serve as an external representative of the organization with consultants, contractors, government agencies, community organizations, and elected officials. You may be asked to manage and implement special projects as-needed. You will support institutional fundraising and assist in assessing and answering requests for proposals. You will assist with day-to-day administrative needs of the team as well as special projects and fundraising campaigns.

The ideal candidate lives within the New York City area, is deeply familiar with the City, and will be based out of our 175 Delancey Street New York, NY 10002 location. The position will be a mix of remote and onsite work: requirements to be in the office or otherwise work onsite will be based on the relationship needs of the project or work activity, while desk work can be done remotely.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Affairs

  • Coordinate with our Executive Team to identify and develop strategic partnerships that result in enhanced services, funding and resources. We are currently providing services in the LES and in various neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
  • Cultivate and maintain a portfolio of current and potential strategic partners. Proactively establish strong working relationships and lines of communication with other settlement houses, nonprofits, NYCHA and other landlords, developers, corporations, consultants, elected officials, local policymakers, government agencies, the NYPD, and other neighborhood stakeholders. Attend and represent GSS at community events and other functions to promote our programs and services.
  • Attend events, community meetings and conferences.
  • Communicate regularly with participants and their families.
  • Work with the Communications Manager to leverage social media to increase visibility and enrollment for GSS programs and services.
  • Create an organizational wide calendar of internal and community events and share with staff and external partners alike on a regular basis.
  • Assist with large scale community events both internally and externally; invite community partners and assist with planning.

Institutional Giving and Foundation/Corporate Relations

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with institutional and corporate donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate grants including research, Letters of Inquiry, proposals, reports, meetings and site visits, budgets and stewardship including ongoing communication about Grand St. Settlement and the programs of interest.
  • Support the development of annual case statements for giving.
  • Maintain a solid working relationship with program staff across Grand St. Settlement.
  • Maintain current records in the database, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.

Your Skills & Knowledge:

  • You are dynamic, thoughtful, and creative.
  • Strong work ethic, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • You take ownership of your work, think strategically, and take thoughtful action. You are self-motivated but also coachable.
  • You are comfortable communicating over email, by phone, or in front of a group of people you don’t know. You listen respectfully and people like to talk to you. You follow up on conversations.
  • You understand how to build and strengthen relationships with external partners.
  • You know how to use a computer, create a spreadsheet, analyze data, and know how to have fun with social media.
  • You may have experience with community organizing, advocacy work, fundraising, social services programming, and knowledge of government-funded programs, non-profit finance, and/or grants administration.
  • You care about people and the state of the world, and want to contribute to Grand St. Settlement’s impact and legacy.
