Climate Power seeks a research assistant to join a team of political researchers shaping the way that the political world talks about climate change.

Climate Power is an independent strategic communications and paid media operation focused on building the political will and public support for bold climate action. Founded by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, League of Conservation Voters, and Sierra Club, Climate Power integrates hard-hitting research, polling, state and national earned media, digital and paid media to influence the national conversation, embolden leaders to take immediate, bold climate action, and expose climate deniers and their oil and gas lobby allies.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Monitoring activity on climate policy in Congress and the administration
  • Tracking major events featuring climate policy makers and monitoring them to capture what was said
  • Circulating daily updates to senior staff and partners summarizing what key political figures are saying about climate change
  • Responding to research questions from other Climate Power departments such as Communications and Digital to inform outgoing content.
  • Vetting storytellers, speakers, or other partners to prevent reputational risks to the organization
  • Assisting in monitoring news about extreme weather events
  • Assisting with gathering facts for reports and other written research products as directed by the Deputy Research Director

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough and detail-oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment and able to multitask and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality of work
  • Understanding of environmental issues and their potential political saliency is helpful, but not required
  • Previous experience working for a congressional office, non-profit advocacy campaign or electoral campaign is preferred

This full time exempt position reports to Climate Power’s Deputy Managing Director, Research.

This full time, non-exempt position reports to Climate Power’s Deputy Managing Director of Research. Non-exempt positions are paid hourly, the pay offered for this position totals approximately $50,000 annually (Rate of $25.64 per hour). We offer a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) plan, and generous paid time off.
