Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in Education, Social Work, or Guidance Counseling or related field required. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with young adults
  • Thorough knowledge of all steps in the high school and college application/financial aid application process.
  • Thorough knowledge of the CUNY and SUNY systems.
  • Interest in providing quality educational and enrichment experiences to youth.
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to communicate and maintain relationships with on-campus officials and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to relate to and interact with high school and college-aged participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking and follow through skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to be resourceful, work efficiently, be flexible, and bring positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer knowledge including experience with Microsoft and Google software package, local area networks and the internet.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide group and individual college counseling to high school students as it relates to college awareness/applications and personal statements
  • Maintain paper and electronic records of all participants and activities including data entry and database management.
  • Contribute anecdotal and quantitative data for quarterly reports and funder proposals and reports.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of college-bound activities workshops and college visits.
  • Assist in the coordination and outreach for parent engagement events/workshops.
  • Assist in coordination of additional resources and opportunities for students including SAT preparation, College Now, outside college success programs
  • Support in training of school staff around issues related to college access
  • Assist in the development of curriculum to be used in classrooms related to college awareness, personal statements, the college application process
  • Maintain records of all participants and activities including data entry, database management, and progress note upkeep.
  • Complete required internal reports and assist with external reporting to funders and other stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
