About the Position

Reporting directly to the Policy and Research Director, the Policy Coordinator will help create tools and implement strategies that support the establishment of the Policy department and run successful statewide outreach and advocacy campaigns. The coordinator will support the policy team across projects, including the creation of background research summaries, campaigns materials, and internal processes. 

The policy team ensures GSO's work is informed by trusted research and data and works closely with elected officials and partners to promote anti-poverty policies that help low-income communities build and retain financial stability. The coordinator will have the opportunity to hone research, advocacy and outreach skills and experience. 

Location: CA – Statewide remote. 

Start Date: Fall 2021

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of outreach and advocacy tools and infrastructure, such as regional strategic outreach plans, one-pagers, and talking points.
  • Create and update materials for statewide outreach campaigns. 
  • Work with staff to engage community leaders and staff to build a deep base of partners.
  • Track and analyze state and federal legislation.  
  • Develop background policy documents including issue deep-dives and landscape reviews. 
  • Provide support with the execution of internal and external events.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned. 

Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with poverty, tax, or government benefits issue areas. 
  • Excellent attention to detail. 
  • Strong self-management, organizational, research, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or have equivalent professional experience
