Michigan Education Justice Coalition Coordinator

482Forward is seeking a full-time Michigan Education Justice Coalition Coordinator. The Coordinator will be responsible for building and coordinating statewide education organizing. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to foster coordination and cooperation among diverse and intergenerational groups.

About 482Forward and Michigan Education Justice Coalition

482Forward is a citywide education organizing network in Detroit. We are neighborhood organizations, parents, and youth committed to ensuring that all Detroit children have access to an excellent education, regardless of their race or socioeconomic status. Together, we are building power to make systemic change and win educational justice for our communities.

482Forward works with existing neighborhood-based organizations to help them build an education organizing program. The organizations might be a social service delivery agency, a youth development group, or a neighborhood association - what matters is that they have strong relationships with residents and families and they want to make a difference in student success. We partner with existing neighborhood-based organizations because we can't improve schools without thinking about the whole neighborhood, and these groups are already doing that.

The Michigan Education Justice Coalition (MEJC) is a network of organizations across Michigan working together around educational equity in our local communities and across the state.

Job Description

The Statewide Coordinator, reports to the 482Forward Organizing Director and MEJC Steering Committee, is responsible for the following:

  • A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Experience in youth organizing and working with young people.
  • 3-5 years experience organizing (labor or community organizing), particularly around statewide policy
