Since 1980, NAF has been partnering with high-need communities to improve outcomes for students by implementing NAF academies – small learning communities within existing high schools. NAF has grown from one NAF Academy of Finance in New York City to hundreds of academies across the country focusing on growing industries including: finance, hospitality & tourism, information technology, engineering, and health sciences. During the 2020-2021 school year, over 117,000 students attended 619 NAF academies across 37 states, plus DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. In 2020, NAF academies reported 99% of seniors graduated with 87% of graduates planning to go to college.

Summary: 

The Manager, Alumni Engagement will help develop and manage a comprehensive and innovative NAF alumni program that cultivates relationships with NAF alumni, existing NAF students, the Alumni Leadership Council, and related partners. Initiatives implemented by the Manager will prepare young alumni for career opportunities, provide a value add for employer partners through a strong alumni talent pool, and strengthen alumni ties to the NAF national organization. This person will be responsible for growing alumni membership; increasing engagement; developing and implementing initiatives to support the college and career success of young alumni; work with NAF’s Corporate Engagement team to implement alumni-employer initiatives; work on post-secondary partnerships; and enable alumni to be NAF champions which will help increase economic opportunity for current NAF students and fellow alumni.


This position can be remote or based at NAF’s New York City headquarters. Though not a requirement, preferred locations include Miami, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and Dallas.


Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

Young Alumni Career Development Initiatives (40%)

  • Develop, implement, and monitor performance of career development initiatives for young alumni, including managing NAF’s Career Insider, an email series for young alumni looking for internships, jobs, financial resources, and professional development opportunities.
  •  Plan and execute alumni events (virtual and in person). Examples include networking, mock interviews, career fairs, and skill development.
  • Collaborate with NAF employer partners, NAF’s corporate engagement and post-secondary teams
  • Research career development initiatives and potential partners to support NAF’s strategic goals

 

Strengthening the Connection between Alumni and NAF National (30%)

  • Manage the onboarding of new alumni into the network including any email communications, events (virtual and in person), mailings, and social media engagement.
  • Arrange alumni activities and events (virtual and in person), including for subsets of alumni.
  • Build alumni volunteer structures that can support the work locally.
  • Build and strengthen alumni relationships and train alumni to be brand ambassadors for NAF including working with the Alumni Leadership Council


Contact Management – Collection and Cultivation (20%)

  • Use Salesforce to manage more than 30,000 alumni contacts
  • Use a data-driven approach to evaluate current alumni engagement, track progress, and ultimately increase engagement, especially with alumni who have lost connection with NAF

 

Marketing & Communications (10%)

This position will require some marketing & communications initiatives related to alumni. This includes managing and executing email and social media marketing efforts (such as writing, editing, scheduling, using email marketing platforms and writing blog posts for naf.org.) as well as designing and drafting copy for event flyers and other marketing materials

 

Educational/Training Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred, minimum Associate’s Degree (or equivalent experience.)

 Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in program development, alumni engagement, membership engagement, or another related field. Non-profit experience is a plus. 
  • Member of the NAF alumni network preferred though not required.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to the NAF mission, vision, and core values
  • A proactive, team player who can learn new skills and absorb information quickly
  • Experience as the direct supervisor for a full-time or part-time employee. Experience managing volunteer personnel will also be considered. 
  • Extremely well versed in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with social media management – including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Strong research skills to support new initiatives and identify growth opportunities
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task, handle pressure and prioritize needs
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Experience working with mass email platforms preferred – examples: Salsa, MailChimp, Emma, Constant Contact
  • Graphic design knowledge and ability to use InDesign and Photoshop preferred
  • Some experience using a customer relationship management database, ex. Salesforce, a plus
