Description

Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a national non-profit organization that empowers young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a robust skills-based health curriculum in under-resourced high schools across the country. Since our founding in 2003, we have trained more than 8,500 college student volunteers to deliver effective health education to over 115,000 public high school students in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington, DC. In 2016, PHE launched a five-year strategic plan to focus on growing our effective model while partnering with health and education systems, as well as communities to build a more integrated, sustainable model for health education. You will be joining an incredibly passionate, collaborative, and committed team working together towards our vision of advancing health equity.

 

As the Accounting Manager you will perform and manage the full range of accounting activities including supervising and completing accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals, reconciliations, month-end close, and documents filing and maintenance. As a member of the national Finance, Technology and Operations team you will report directly to the Vice President Finance and Administration.

This is a part-time up to 30hrs a week, temporary, hourly position and can be located in any of our registered states: NY, IL, MA, CA, & OH. 


Here’s what you will do as part of the team:

 

30% - Manage the Staff Accountant on all aspects of the organization’s accounting.

  • Manage the posting and maintenance of general ledger accounts, payroll transactions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, adjusting journal entries and month-end close
  • Manage the expense and credit card reporting software, from user creation to reports approval to synching with accounting system
  • Manage monthly reconciliation of bank, credit card and revenue accounts
  • Month-End Close: ensure daily, and monthly processes are completed and lead to a timely and accurate month-end close
  • Provide financial analysis statements including monthly balance sheet, income statement, cash flows statement, and actual to budget and last year variance analysis.


30% - Oversee and report PHE financial performance

  • Monitor expenses and revenue against the budget and suggesting budget changes as necessary
  • Analyze PHE’s financial performance against key business metrics and report to management
  • Prepare financial reports for PHE staff, Board members, and Funders

 

10% - Oversee accounting and internal control policies and procedures

  • Keep abreast of regulatory and GAAP requirements
  • Manage expense and credit card reporting software system.


10% - Support the annual audit and special projects

  • Ensure year-end close is completed in an accurate and timely manner; ensure supporting schedules and reconciliations are completed and available for the audit;
  • Support other Finance, Technology, and Operations team work as necessary
  • Special projects that may include working on budgeting or budget requests from staff

 

What you'll bring to the table:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a strong passion for PHE’s mission to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions; strong alignment with PHE’s core values of Health, Equity, Agency, Communication and Impact
  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
  • At least 1 year experience in Sage Intacct and Planful, and strong Excel knowledge
  • Experience with Certify or a similar expense management software
  • Full accounting cycle experience: AP, AR, reconciliation, and month-end close
  • Experience working quickly and accurately with large volume of data
  • Knowledge of nonprofit GAAP
  • Proven time management and prioritization skills in a fast paced high volume environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented


Preferred qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience within a non-profit or small business organization
  • Experience with organization with multiple sites
