APPELLATE ADVOCATES, a not-for profit law office representing indigent criminal defendants on appeal and on motions in the trial courts, seeks college graduate, preferably with paralegal certification, for full-time paralegal position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, opening files for new clients and maintaining the files, mailing introductory letters to clients, obtaining records from various agencies and from the courts, filing notices with the courts, tracking release dates and the progress of cases on spreadsheets, corresponding with clients and their families, serving as backup receptionist, and assembling motions and exhibits for attorneys. The position requires rigorous attention to detail, an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, well-developed telephone and in-person communication skills, and familiarity with such computer applications as Microsoft Word and Excel, WordPerfect, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Access. Salary is commensurate with experience.
