Role Purpose:

About HRD: Founded in 2018, Humanity for Relief and Development (HRD) began as a tribute to CEO Maeen Ali's deceased brother to secure the livelihood of his late children. Rather than limit the love and generosity that comes with sharing a meal, HRD staff and volunteers decided to open Mercy Bakeries in Yemen. HRD operates primarily in Northern Yemen with some expansion into the South through partner organizations and maintains an office in Brooklyn, NY with a potential fundraising office based in Ottawa, Canada. HRD is seeking to hire senior level staff to manage the influx of funds and scale the impact of its existing programs, use its existing resources wisely, and set the foundation for sustainability in the next 1-3 years.

Major Function: This person is an experienced leader who is enjoys the challenges of the startup NGO space. S/he understands how to create an organizational culture that reflects inclusivity, diversity, and respect for HRD’s beneficiaries in Yemen.


Key Accountability:

  • Develop and implement a 1-3 year strategy in conjunction with CEO, Board of Directors, and other HRD stakeholders that accounts for HRD’s sustained operations in Yemen and possibly expand to other areas of the globe
  • Coordinate: finance, human resources, IT, office operations, business development, and compliance to actualize strategy
  • Serve as a liaison, along with CEO, to HRD’s Board of Directors. This will include- support in selecting Board members, presenting strategy benchmarks, and rallying individuals who could be instrumental in making HRD a reputable NGO to Yemeni-Americans
  • Provide day to day functional support to the CEO in managing HRD staff to support high-impact outcomes in the field
  • Primary liaison to HRD legal counsel
  • Deepen network of HRD partners to include other NGOs, government officials, and other professionals in the philanthropic industry who can support HRD’s bottom line of service to persons in Yemen
  • Represent HRD to funders, Board members, and key partners
  • Develop, support, and retain a cohesive leadership team across multiple countries and various functions


Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of growing NGO capacity, preferably from the startup level
  • 5+ years’ executive level experience
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically (up to 25%)
  • Some in person work required (10%-20%)
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and highly developed liaison and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional planning and organizing skills, demonstrated ability to work independently, apply initiative and work under pressure to meet multiple and changing priorities, deadlines and objectives
  • Ability to inspire, lead, and manage staff. Ability to think strategically and make difficult decisions in the face of an extremely difficult working environment
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills.

  • 5-10 years experience in a similar role
