The Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC) provides expert technical assistance and resources to charter school developers, operators, charter-granting agencies, and policymakers, primarily in California. We support all charter schools with our knowledge and expertise in the areas of charter school leadership, finance, operations, governance, accountability, advocacy and development.

Our mission is to help public education change from a highly regulated, process-based system to one that allows and encourages schools to be more creative, performance-based centers of effective teaching and learning. We aim to achieve this by providing technical assistance to the charter school reform movement in California, nationally, and internationally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Familiarity with charter schools. Familiarity with membership programs and processes. Experience in sales, marketing, public relations, or outreach. 

Demonstrated experience with website management and social media marketing. Experience using Salesforce or similar. Experience updating and maintaining database information, including contact records and sales data. Experience with email marketing programs, such as MailChimp. Experience with Formstack or similar. Experience with graphic design and layout, preferably Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc.).  

Experience establishing a customer-friendly atmosphere and interfacing with clients, including professional responses to incoming phone calls and emails. Expertise in the use of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Must be detail-oriented, organized, creative, honest and adaptable. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must be able to take initiative, complete projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team. Must be able to thrive in a small work environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations of CSDC, this position leads membership, marketing, database and related support tasks. This position receives periodic work direction from other staff at CSDC. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Manage and grow membership program. Manage, improve and monitor membership lifecycle and program development: 1) Engage in weekly activities to evaluate and improve membership package and benefits; 2) Develop and implement strategies to attract new members and retain existing members; 3) Monitor, update and implement membership renewal process and new member onboarding accurately and on-schedule. Specific renewal tasks may include: a) generate Salesforce reports and deliver new membership and monthly renewal letters, Mailchimp emails, and Formstack forms; b) follow-up via email and phone to expiring and lapsed members, updating contact information as applicable; c) monitor and track all membership renewal activity and communications between CSDC and member organizations; d) prepare and present weekly membership and renewal reports to supervisor and support team.
  2. Coordinate and execute annual marketing calendar and membership outreach plans. Implement marketing communications and member outreach across various media including website, social media, email, print, phone-based and in-person efforts: 1) engage in weekly marketing planning and update meetings; 2) craft marketing language and posts (which may include videos and/or graphics) for email communications, social media, website, brochures, promotional materials, technical resources, and online publications; 3) develop and update email templates using Mailchimp; 4) implement membership outreach initiatives to attract and retain members, such as personalized outreach, regional meetings, networking events, online discussion groups, or other targeted outreach.
  3. Manage website and social media platforms. Continually improve website and expand social media marketing and outreach strategy: 1) On a regular (daily/weekly) basis, execute social media projects and engage with social media audience to share news updates and promote CSDC trainings and membership (using videos and infographics); 2) On a weekly basis, or as needed, perform website updates, such as content/news changes, new webpages, branding updates, addressing technical issues, and adjustments to member access allowances and rules. Interface with website consultants or other technical experts when needed.
  4. Manage and maintain CSDC’s contact lists and CRM data. Utilize Salesforce on a regular (daily) basis to 1) ensure updates and maintenance of contact, sales and related information for all CSDC clients, vendors and associates; 2) develop and update marketing lists; 3) track membership, sales and other data; 4) provide database reports, perform customizations and address issues as assigned, 5) ensure contact data is updated appropriately across all systems, such as Salesforce, website and Mailchimp.
  5. Answer basic phone and email inquiries from charter school developers, administrators, operators, service providers, and grantors. Determine the nature of each call/email and either respond or refer to the appropriate colleague. Listen and respond to clients clearly and professionally both over the phone and in-person.
  6. Coordinate other office projects as assigned, including vendor management and communications, research and copyediting of technical articles marketing collateral, and other correspondence, and other general support projects.
  7. Assist with CSDC’s leadership trainings, workshops, conferences, and events.
  8. Act as an assistant to the Executive Director and other senior CSDC staff.
  9. Occasional travel required to provide support during workshops and other functions.
  10. Occasional moderate lifting.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The position is located at CSDC’s main office in Sacramento. This is an at-will, non-exempt, full-time, benefited position. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon funding and the mutual consent of CSDC and the employee, and either CSDC or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
