Color Of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. We develop strategies to put an end to policies and practices holding Black people back while championing the solutions that move all people forward. As a national force driven by over one million members, we move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more humane and less hostile world for Black people in America. In 2005, Color Of Change was founded in response to the realization that during the Hurricane Katrina crisis, no one was afraid to disappoint Black people. There were no consequences for Black people being left stranded on their roofs to die, nor was there sufficient infrastructure among Black communities to aggregate our power and demand them for those that perpetuated or refused to acknowledge the tragic injustice. Color Of Change impacts lives by introducing accountability into the systems of decision-making. We leverage emerging technologies and our media savvy and sharp focus to build the power it takes to move decision-makers in corporations, media, and government to drive meaningful change for Black people in service of ending injustice for all oppressed groups.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Color Of Change is looking to hire a Director of Finance (“DofF”) to be a strategic and integral driver of oversight, implementation, and organization of Color Of Change’s financial systems. The Director of Finance will report to the Deputy Chief Financial Administrative Officer and work in collaboration with the CFAO and President to ensure the integrity of the financials and systems within Color Of Change. 

The DofF must be a strong communicator with the ability to work in a fast-moving campaign environment that can react to changing variables and understands how to create systems that value good controls and flexibility within a multi-entity organizational structure. Color Of Change currently includes three organizations (501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and hybrid Federal PAC/SuperPAC). 

The DofF is responsible for all day-to-day accounting activities, oversees budget development, financial statement and audit preparation, and financial management.  He/She/They will oversee the financial team while directly managing two Senior Managers and a Deputy. Working closely with the CFAO, he/she/they must be strategic in assessing business risks and opportunities while ensuring that there is an ample amount of cash flow coverage.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work in collaboration with Deputy CFAO on organization budgeting and financial planning.
• Coordinate, analyze, and report the financial performance, budgets, and projections for Leadership and Teams.
• Oversee the preparation of short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties.
• Oversee audit, tax, and campaign finance reporting functions including preparation of 990s and FEC reports. Coordinate other fiscal compliance activities with outside audit firms and campaign finance consultants.
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting and other corporate policies.
• Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance functions and provide direction and supervision to the finance team engaged in day-to-day internal accounting and cash management.
• Coach and mentor the accounting staff, providing leadership and guidance to achieve a high level of operational excellence.
• Assist managers in developing and tracking consultant contracts.
• Partner with Talent and Human Resources on matters pertaining to payroll processing.
• Work with the Development team to track and manage donor contribution and reporting.
• Ensure that staff is trained on relevant accounting policies and procedures and hold staff accountable for adherence to such policies and procedures. 
• Collaborate with campaign finance consultants to ensure accurate and timely filing of campaign finance reports

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA preferred.
• 5-7 years of nonprofit accounting experience a must.
• 3 years of experience managing a team or supervising a full-time staff person.
• 5 years or more of full-time accounting experience.
• Strong experience with Intacct, Insights, Bill.com, or similar systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP; ability to prepare, analyze, and present financial statements.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of intercompany accounting.
• Team oriented, responsive with a collaborative working style
• Ability to manage, coach, develop and hold direct reports accountable
