Background: Founded in 2011, Sunday Suppers is a community-based program that works with families experiencing poverty who want to improve their health and well-being. Every week at Sunday Suppers, families share a multi-course healthy dinner around a family table. In addition to eating together, families participate in pre-dinner community conversations and workshops focused on health and nutrition, cultural foodways, easy and accessible cooking techniques, and the importance of family meals. In addition to supporting families to cook and eat nourishing meals together, Sunday Suppers strives to foster long lasting connections and genuine leadership amongst our community of participants past and present. We dream of and work towards a day when Sunday Suppers will be run by and for the community it serves. To this end, we strongly welcome applicants from communities similar to those of our participating families. Sunday Suppers operates in Kensington and Germantown and is in the process of expanding and adding additional sites.
The Program Facilitator will be responsible for Sunday Suppers’ programming for families every week at designated program sites. Sunday Suppers provides a basic framework for the curriculum which the facilitator will tailor each week to design a program that will either be implemented by the facilitator, the Chef / Educator, or by an outside presenter recruited by the facilitator. Programming entails providing families hands-on lessons and workshops that are exciting, motivating and reinforce learning. The Program Facilitator works from a set of core values and ethics consistent with the concepts of empowerment, collaboration, and learning. In addition the Program Facilitator participates in the communication plan and may assist the Director in evaluation and other data management activities.
Program Planning, Development & Delivery
● Using our standardized curriculum as a guide, plan and deliver weekly workshops and lessons to ensure consistency with mission and goals while addressing specific areas of expertise such as nutrition, healthy cooking, exercise, food budgeting and goal setting.
● Identify additional workshop providers and ensure that program content is engaging and culturally appropriate (i.e. experiential learning – cooking classes and skill development - parenting, budgeting).
● Maintain an updated resource directory of organizations and individuals who will provide lessons. Examples include cooking and nutrition lessons, exercise, and gardening.
● Maintain all materials for each lesson to ensure standardization and replication. Ensure all needed supplies for lessons are on-site and oversee the set up of workshop area.
● Identify and provide resources to increase access to healthy food including SHARE food boxes, farmers markets, Philly Food Bucks, etc.
● Participate in the development of cohort calendar for programming and a reminder system for providers.
● Participate in social media plan
● Organize bi-monthly parent meetings/community gatherings during the term to discuss the group’s progress and ways to improve the program.
● Coordinate all volunteer opportunities. Post regularly on website and volunteer sites, communicate with volunteers and ensure there is adequate coverage at each site.
● Participate in planning for the monthly alumni Program dinners and create program lessons that allow graduates of the program (alumni) to help organize and run specific elements of the program as well as ongoing support for graduates. Work with alumni group leader(s) and utilize feedback to inform aspects of program and involve alumni in activities.
● Attend weekly meetings with staff, interns and volunteers.
● Maintain regular and ongoing communication with team.
● Develop and support new initiatives / programs that are responsive to the education and support needs of families including development of support groups (i.e. weight loss). Determine the viability of new groups as well as the details to execute such programs.
● Work with Program Manager and Executive Director on other projects as needed.
● Facilitate workshop sessions, overseeing group process which includes keeping the groups on task, on time, presenting appropriate new learning and concepts for discussion, encouraging participation, discouraging disruptive dialogue, and facilitation principles.
● Mentor Peer Leaders involved in workshops and lessons and provide guidance on tasks to interns/volunteers as necessary.

Skills and Experience
● Minimum 3 years of experience working in community based organizations – facilitating groups and programs.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to deliver a strong and engaging program for families.
● Strong work ethic with excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with diverse programs and people.
● Willing to work both independently and collaboratively.
● Attention to detail, organized, resourceful and flexible.
● Ability to multi-task, prioritize and ability to make last minute changes as necessary.
● Candidates with experience in health, nutrition, or cooking related programming and experience with children preferred.
● Pennsylvania Childline and Criminal Background Clearances.
● Spanish proficiency a plus.
● Must have a car, valid driver's license and insurance.
● Flexibility to work evenings
● Preference given to candidates from communities similar to those we serve.
