The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks a motivated Climate Adaptation Program Officer to support the management of the Climate Adaptation Fund. The Climate Adaptation Fund’s mission is to create a paradigm shift among public agencies and nonprofit conservation organizations to incorporate and prioritize climate change adaptation in all conservation work. The Fund is unique in the climate change arena in that it prioritizes conservation actions that help wildlife and ecosystems adapt to climate change.


Principal Responsibilities: The Program Officer will provide support for the Climate Adaptation Fund’s grants administration, monitoring, and strategic communication efforts. The grants administration and monitoring components include tracking submission of progress reports from grant partners and tracking project progress against committed deliverables. The strategic communications component includes applying targeted communications actions to engage key stakeholders and audiences for the national program to achieve program level goals. The Program Officer will support the Fund from both the project and program perspectives. The duties below will give the Program Officer access to over 70 conservation NGOs conducting work on the leading edge of the conservation field. The Program Officer role manages the components i.e. projects, from which the Fund’s strategy is built while also managing activities that leverage those components to achieve the program level strategy to incite real change in the conservation field.


·        Grants Administration & Monitoring:

o   Track submission of progress reports from grant partners

o   Review grant partner progress reports to track project progress against committed deliverables and lessons learned to transfer to other grant partners or program level audiences

o   Keep online grants management data up to date

o   Track leveraged funds raised by grant partners over time

o   Support preparation for annual decision meeting with an external advisory council

o   Assist with RFP distribution


·        Program Strategy & Communication:

o   Track and categorize success stories from projects

o   Identify opportunities for publishing blogs and articles about climate adaptation solutions supported by the Fund, and across WCS in internal and external publications; assist in writing blogs and articles

o   Update project pages on the Climate Adaptation Fund’s website with new media articles or materials shared by grant partners via reports and direct communication

o   Maintain 3 active social media channels with support

o   Develop basic portfolio statistics for the website

o   Support program initiative to scale adaptation approaches across WCS, land management agencies, and other

conservation organizations by developing appropriate outreach tactics to reach these audiences with tools or

resources they can act on to incorporate climate change and adaptation planning into their standard natural

resources management and conservation approaches

o   Track local, regional, national, and global climate events relevant to the Fund’s goals to keep staff current and

identify opportunities to attend or present

o   1-3 years of experience in communications/cause marketing and/or conservation or environmental science;

o   Strong research, analytical thinking, and writing skills a must;

o   Ability to work independently, and to collaborate effectively as a member of a team;

o   Strong website and social media competency;

o   Attention to detail especially when managing data on projects

o   Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science or related field and/or communications.
