THE POSITION – Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations

 

Reports to: JA New York Director, Institutional Giving and works closely with Vice President for Programs

 

Position Overview: The Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations is responsible for meeting budget goals for corporate and foundation funding by preparing grant proposals, RFPs and stewardship reports, prospecting for new sources of grant revenues, managing the grant/reports calendar and updating all relevant grant related information in BCRM.

Junior Achievement of New York's (JA New York) mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy. Junior Achievement’s educational programs address important societal needs, focusing on empowering young people in three areas — financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness. A dedicated network of corporate and community volunteers teach our high-quality K-12 curricula in in-school, after-school and workplace settings.

 

JA New York, which serves New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley, is the local affiliate of Junior Achievement USA, the nation’s oldest and largest economic education organization. JA New York’s primary office is located in midtown Manhattan, with area offices on Long Island and in the Lower Hudson Valley. JA New York has a full-time staff of 25 and an annual budget of nearly $4 million.

Primary Responsibilities:

o  Draft grant proposals and reports related to corporate, foundation and government funding solicitations and RFP

o  Maintain grant management system in Blackbaud CRM, updating deliverables, contact information, activity, follow-up, etc.

o  Conduct regular new funder prospecting, keeping up to date on emerging philanthropic trends in the field and staying current on the funding relationships of competitor organizations.

o  Maintain calendar indicating renewals, reports, new prospect deadlines

o  Completion of all interim and final report requirements associated with grant deliverables

o  Coordinate national grant deliverables (applications, agreements and reporting) with JA USA

o  Maintain accurate donor files for all corporate, foundation and government donors and prospects

o  Work with Program and Development staff on ongoing basis to determine funding opportunities and priorities for existing and new programs

o  Maintain collaborative working relationships with other staff to ensure maximum support for Resource Development throughout the organization.

o  Prepare and present reports on a regular basis for review by the leadership team

 

Preferred Competencies:

o An undergraduate degree is required.

o Three or more years of success in fundraising, grant-writing and/or stewardship

o Experience in corporate and foundation grant writing and stewardship (education and youth development field a plus)

o Familiarity with New York State and City government grants and contracts management a plus

o Excellent written skills and strong proofreading skills

o Excellent communication and teamwork skills

o An intellectual curiosity about the programs we offer and the societal needs they address, as well as an interest in business and how corporate philanthropy works

o Strong analytical and research skills, ability to glean actionable information from data and feedback; ability to develop budgets

o Knowledge/familiarity with Blackbaud CRM and MS Office software programs
