    The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) seeks an ambitious, collaborative, organized, and well-rounded communications expert with a passion for waste reduction, reuse, and recycling policy and a talent for storytelling and advocacy to join our dedicated team of environmental stewards. This is an excellent opportunity to work in the rapidly growing field of extended producer responsibility (EPR) and to be part of a fast-paced organization that has been at the forefront of the U.S. EPR movement for 24 years.

    • Compensation: $75,000 to $95,000 commensurate with experience and geographic location

    Communications and Marketing Manager Role

    The communications and marketing manager reports to the Chief of Operations and collaborates with PSI leadership and the policy team to promote EPR solutions and PSI’s work. They will work closely with PSI staff, government members, and corporate, environmental, academic, and international partners to educate diverse stakeholder groups about EPR policies and programs through webinars, conferences, and policy initiatives, and support PSI’s legislative advocacy. They will also support PSI’s initiatives to grow membership and partnership and build relationships with foundations and other funders.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Quickly develop an understanding of PSI’s niche, mission, history, and work, and the policy concept of EPR and be able to articulate these clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders.
    • With the PSI leadership, develop and implement a communications plan aligned with PSI’s organizational strategy to advance our mission, policy goals, and fundraising objectives.
    • In collaboration with the policy team, create content, design, edit, and distribute PSI’s newsletters, blogs, social media, legislative updates, EPR training courses, educational materials (e.g., reports, toolkits, fact sheets, advocacy websites), and other communications, ensuring all messaging aligns with PSI’s brand, mission, and policy objectives.
    • Write press releases, field and coordinate incoming media inquiries, identify and secure media opportunities, and handle communications with key stakeholders on behalf of PSI.
    • Field requests for and coordinate speaking engagements, such as conferences and other external events, including develop slide decks, talking points, and prep documents; identify and secure speaking engagements aligned with PSI’s organizational strategy.
    • Coordinate and promote PSI’s monthly webinars, including working with the policy team to develop content, inviting and prepping speakers, promoting the webinars, managing registration, hosting the webinar, publishing the recording, and reporting key metrics.
    • Market, promote, and help coordinate PSI’s national conference, the U.S. Product Stewardship Forum, on June 3-5, 2025 in Chicago, collaborating with the policy team to develop the agenda and the operations team to secure and fulfill sponsorships, promote registration, and successfully conduct conference events.
    • Maintain and update PSI’s website including map and timeline graphics, and posting press releases, events, blogs, reports, and other resources for the public, members, and partners. Maintain the websites of PSI’s product stewardship councils in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Illinois.
    • Work with the CEO and leadership to develop communications materials and networking opportunities to help secure new members and partners, boost engagement with existing members and partners, and secure new funding for the organization.
    • Help maintain PSI’s ever-growing contact database, including subscription management.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s (preferred) or undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, journalism, environmental studies, public policy, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in the field of communications and marketing or journalism.
    • Demonstrated passion for waste reduction, reuse, recycling, EPR, and circular economy.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, especially exceptional writing skills, and the ability to communicate across digital media platforms in a professional manner with a broad range of stakeholders from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
    • Familiarity with software, including Microsoft Suite; WordPress; Google Analytics; Constant Contact; HubSpot; LinkedIn/Facebook; Zoom Webinar; Datawrapper; Canva; Clipchamp; Vimeo.
    • Graphic aptitude and an eye for design, with proficiency in Canva or Adobe Suite preferred.
    • Cultural competence, commitment to environmental justice and equity, and experience working with diverse teams. Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
    • Self-starter with a positive attitude who shares ideas and actively identifies solutions to problems rather than waiting for others to take a leadership role.
    • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
    • Outgoing, take-charge personality and desire to drive initiatives forward proactively.
