Come and find your inner teacher while experiencing a new culture in Central America! This is a teaching opportunity that will allow you to test your teaching skills, develop leadership skills and challenge yourself in more ways than you ever though possible. If you do not have a teaching degree, do not worry! We offer training to any fluent English speaker with a bachelors degree that is ready for the challenge of being a teacher. This job is during the Honduran school year which starts ASAP and ends at the end of November.
We offer a monthly stipend of $400.00 which is more than enough to cover your living expenses in Honduras. We also offer a $300 airfare allowance and provide housing, wifi, electricity working visa and water for all of our teachers. Once you arrive, we provide private transportation to and from the Villeda Morales International Airport (San Pedro Sula).
At our school, teachers have the freedom to design and conduct lessons as they see appropriate by using skills, knowledge, and your own personal strengths. All teachers are responsible for the following: Creating lesson plans based off of the provided textbooks Making weekly and monthly lesson plans for each class Developing assignments for the students Grading daily homework assignments, quizzes and projects Grading quarterly exams Keeping and maintaining records of attendance, homework, participation, behavior, quizzes, projects, quarterly exams, and anything else assigned in the classroom Meeting with parents when requested Decorating the classroom Entering final grades in the national school database Completing other administrative duties of teachers (There is always something to do when you are a teacher) Our institution runs Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Teachers must arrive at school by 6:45 AM and stay until the end of the school day. However, most teachers find that they have to stay later in order to plan lessons, grade assignments, or tutor students.
Even though this job requires dedication, you will have some free time to enjoy yourself. From our location it is easy to travel to many tourist attractions such as the famous Mayan ruins of Copan, Pulhapanzak water falls, Lake Yojoa and much more. Not to mention, this is a perfect opportunity to improve your Spanish! Even though we do not offer classes at this time, we can arrange for tutoring and arrange family relationships that will help you in your language learning endeavor. For this position we require a person that is positive, flexible, sensitive to cultural expectations, and able to make the most of minimal resources.
