Description

The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the position of Manager of Institutional Giving. We seek an energetic, creative individual with exceptional writing skills to create proposals and cases for support to foundations, government agencies, corporations, and individuals. The Manager will seek funding for a diverse group of programs and projects—especially exhibitions—general operations, and, in tandem with the Director of Institutional Advancement, capital and endowment needs. This position will identify corporate, foundation, government, and individual prospects; match funding needs with prospects; cultivate and steward institutional donors, including the development and timely submission of narrative and financial reports; and work closely with senior administrative and program staff to meet the Morgan’s development goals. The Manager will supervise the Development Associate, Institutional Giving and collaborate with other development staff as required to plan and implement department activities.

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of five years or more of fundraising experience with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in securing corporate, foundation, and government grants for general operations and special projects and direct experience in obtaining grants of $100,000 or more.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. A keen interest in the arts and humanities is desired
  • Knowledge of local, national, and international funding sources for New York City cultural organizations, including museums, libraries, and other cultural programs
  • Ability to match donor and prospect interests and funding guidelines with museum needs
  • Ability to work independently, juggle multiple and diverse assignments, and manage simultaneous deadlines
  • Ability to respond effectively to the demands and priorities of senior management
  • Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with other departments, interact with donors, and train support staff
  • Ability to understand and create budgets
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Effective analytical thinker and creative problem-solver
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, Adobe, PowerPoint, as well as Raiser’s Edge and online prospect databases
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines. Willingness to work some evening hours to participate in donor events, as required.
