Overview of the position

The Project Coordinator (PC) supports project implementation, business development and operations at CL. The PC is a full-time position reporting to CL’s Director of Peace and Security Programs and Cl’s Program Manager.

Project Coordination

The PC provides support and backstopping for CL’s “Strengthening Resilience against Violent Extremism Project in Uganda” project. The goal of this project is to increase the capacity and collaboration of key stakeholders in government and civil society to reduce extremist recruitment and radicalization in four hotspot areas. The PC serves a key role in project implementation, providing US-based support to field staff and partners (e.g. donors, subcontractors, consultants)) serving as a project lead when appropriate. The PC supports all project functions, including technical implementation, contracts, finance, reporting, and M&E. S/he contributes to the project team efforts to assure that all project activities are executed in compliance with contractual and budget requirements, while achieving or exceeding expectations for project results. The PC also supports other CL projects as needed, including those of CL’s Aid to Artisans division.

Business Development

The PC supports CL’s business development activities, which may include conducting research, support writing as needed, completing required forms and submitting materials to potential funders. The PC also attends external meetings and events on behalf of CL.


The PC supports CL’s operations including communications, membership management, and administrative tasks.

Primary Responsibilities       

Project Implementation

  • Serve as backstop for the Strengthening Resilience against Violent Extremism Project in Uganda, to field-based project leaders, support CL HQ staff, and serve as project lead when necessary.
  • Contribute to technical implementation and ensure achievement of programmatic goals and results.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Assist field-based staff, consultants, partners and donors.
  • Monitor project results, budget and activity plan monthly to ensure that implementation is on track, raising flags/issues to the project lead or Director of Programs, as appropriate, for corrections to implementation plans. 
  • Draft regular progress report to donors.
  • Supervise and/or coordinate administrative and logistical support for international consultancies and field staff travel to the US.
  • Identify and document success stories, project information, and other communications for CL-wide promotion and project-specific public relations efforts, both generating ideas and providing responses to specific requests for related information.

Business Development

  • Represent CL among partners and donors.
  • Support proposal development including research, project design, coordination with local partners to define roles, and budgets.
  • Provide assistance writing and compilation of proposal materials to be submitted to potential program funders.
  • Keep organizational business development documents up-to-date and accurately filed.

CL Operations

  • Support Program Manager with CL communications including posting to Creative Learning’s social media platforms and monitoring CL’s info account.
  • Manage CL membership renewals and reporting (Annual Service Report, Business renewals, Charitable registrations)
  • Track CL Operations including staff time.
  • Manage SharePoint filing system for weekly finance reports.
  • Support Program Manager with CL Staff and Business Insurance renewals
  • Other administrative tasks as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international studies, peace studies, development studies, political sciences, anthropology, or related fields (required).
  • 2+ years of experience in international program design and implementation; or Graduate degree in relevant field.
  • Proven skills in project coordination and organizational operations.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement and ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills: excellent attention to detail, able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, interns and donors.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation abilities.
  • Occasional travel required. International travel experience preferred.
  • Competency in variety of Windows-based programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Word Press desired but not required.
  • Second language strongly preferred (French, Spanish, Arabic or Hindi).
  • Understanding of U.S. government and World Bank regulations preferred.
  • Eligible to work legally in the US.

Position is based in Washington DC. (Due to COVID-19, this position will be remote until Creative Learning leadership decides otherwise).
