Associate Director of Operations, Curriculum and Assessment Team

Uncommon Schools (Uncommon) is seeking an Associate Director of Operations to support the operations of the organization’s K-8 Curriculum and Assessment Team (CAT). The Associate Director of Operations will be responsible for the following activities around the operations, cross-regional coordination, and communications related to CAT:

  • Support OperationsSupport the curriculum and IA gathering, maintenance, revision, distribution, and feedback loop
  • Support the coordination, communication, and drive of process implementation with regions
  • Support management of the shared server for curriculum and instruction
  • Assist with the assessment revision work cycles for ES and MS assessment rounds
  • Manage the calendar for CAT process plans such as curriculum distribution, IA cycles, audits, etc.
  • Support with the creation of IAs and other K-8 assessments in Illuminate
  • Create the weekly elementary school and middle school leader facing CAT communications memo
  • Support the maintenance of technological systems that CAT uses to share information with school leaders and teachers


  • Manage SystemsSupport yearly strategic planning process
  • Support several specific strategic initiatives each year, revised annually
  • Support new instructional curriculum pilots from inception to full implementation
  • Support the DCI annual hiring process
  • Manage listservs
  • Support the curriculum ordering process for K-8 in conjunction with DOOs
  • Maintain updated curriculum lists such as book lists, curriculum materials, etc.

  • Manage Scheduling and LogisticsManage scheduling and invites for CAT meetings and network-wide initiatives
  • Manage logistics for CAT meetings and network-wide initiatives 

  • Build Organizational RelationshipsVisit schools to build relationships with school leadership and teachers and assess the effectiveness of CAT initiatives
  • Support and/or participate in organization retreats

  • Organizational RelationshipsReports to the Director of Strategy and Operations
  • Works closely with regional operational teams, school leadership teams, Assistant Superintendents (ASups), Associate Chief Operating Officers (ACOOs), regional and network lesson planners, Deans of Curriculum and Instruction (DCIs), and other members of the Curriculum and Assessment Team.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

  • QUALIFICATIONSExcellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Relentless attention to detail and ability to project manage
  • Experience in maintaining new systems, structures, and processes
  • Ability to drive multiple processes and drive to complete tasks
  • Ability to multi-task, set and drive priorities, monitor progress towards goals, and utilize data and information
  • Self-directed and able to contribute individually and as a member of a team
  • Perform various administrative and other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Manage calendars, arrange meetings and conference calls
  • Develop systems and processes to maximize efficiency
  • Prepare meeting agendas, attend meetings to record general notes and follow-up assignments, as necessary
  • Make travel arrangements and provide materials for off-site meetings
  • Provide comprehensive support of meeting logistics for team meetings and team-hosted meetings
  • Collect curriculum information
  • Create data presentations
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Interest in education/charter schools a plus
  • Willing to travel to our schools throughout our six regions
  • Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred (but not necessary)
  • 3-5 years of work experience managing operations and communications in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency, clarity, and top-of-the-line customer service.
