Schedule: Half-time to Full-time

Salary: $60-65,000/year for full time (pro-rated for less than full-time), including health benefits, based on skills and experience

 

 

ORGANIZATION

Partnerships for Trauma Recovery (PTR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among international survivors of human rights abuses and forced displacement resulting from war, torture, gender-based, criminal and other interpersonal violence; and persecution related to identity and beliefs. At our Mosaic Healing Center in Berkeley, California, we: (a) Provide globally culturally and contextually responsive, trauma-informed and linguistically accessible psychological and psychosocial care for asylum seekers and refugees from around the world, (b) Expand multidisciplinary clinical capacity to serve highly diverse international populations through an in-depth yearlong clinical training program, (c) Conduct community outreach, support and training to address the needs of forcibly displaced immigrants and newcomers, and (d) Advocate for policies to prevent trauma and re-traumatization among international survivors of human rights abuses and forced displacement.

POSITION

This is an exciting opportunity to join a nonprofit organization working at the nexus of human rights and global mental health. Reporting to the Program Director, the Financial Officer will be responsible for ensuring day-to-day financial management, including management of grant-related budgets. This position requires a high attention to detail, strong bookkeeping and financial management abilities, familiarity with budgeting processes for foundation and government grants, and a passion for promoting human rights, peace and psychosocial wellbeing.


Due to COVID-19, PTR plans to be operating remotely through the end of 2020. This position may also be conducted remotely through that time. Beyond that, this position will need to be located in the San Francisco Bay Area.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The roles and responsibilities of the Financial Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

●       Manage all bookkeeping for PTR: track income and expenditures in Quickbooks Online, track receipts, and generate reports as needed

●       Allocate expenses based on individual grant budgets and functional expenses

●       Serve as the primary liaison between PTR and grantors regarding financial reporting and invoicing

●       Understand and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements

●       Adhere to financial policies and procedures and ensure continued compliance; refine and improve financial policies and procedures as necessary

●       Track funds received from grantors, and prepare and submit monthly invoices to grantors

●       Prepare financial reports for quarterly Board meetings and as needed for the leadership team

●       Compile information necessary to file tax returns and work with accountant to ensure tax returns are filed in a timely fashion

●       Maintain chart of accounts

●       Ensure payment/reimbursement in a timely fashion for licenses, insurance providers, and to other staff, vendors or contractors

●       Maintain an orderly accounting filing system

●       Lead auditing processes, including assembling information for external auditors

●       Conduct a monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and petty cash

●       Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy

●       Calculate variances from the annual budget and report significant issues to management

●       Oversee the distribution of petty cash and client emergency funds remain in accordance with best financial practices

 

Qualifications

●       At least 2 years of experience with nonprofit accounting and managing grants over $150,000

●       High level of experience preparing information for organizational audits

●       Experience with grant reporting requirements for both private and government grants

●       Experience both creating and managing systems to track information flow pertaining to grant budgets

●       Strong financial management skills, including proficiency with Quickbooks Online

●       Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Google Drive

●       Highly detail-oriented and organized

●       Strong problem-solving skills. Able to address challenges of a wide variety with creativity, initiative and resourcefulness.

●       Experience working with diverse populations, especially international populations

●       Maturity and an ability to inspire others and work collaboratively with staff and volunteers

●       Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
