About the Women’s Justice Initiative (WJI): WJI improves the lives of indigenous Guatemalan women and girls through education, access to legal services, and gender-based violence prevention. WJI works in rural communities where women face extreme poverty, high rates of gender inequality and violence against women and girls (VAWG), and have little or no access to resources. WJI increases access to justice for Maya women and girls and combats VAWG by providing free legal services, bilingual legal education, and leadership training in 38 communities in the municipalities of Patzún and Tecpán, Chimaltenango through its four programs: Women’s Rights Education, Legal Services, Community Advocates, and Adolescent Girls. 

Job Description:

Working closely with the Director of Development and Communications and the Program Officer for Monitoring and Evaluation, the Impact and Development Officer will be responsible for supporting the organization’s resource development and communications strategies as well as the implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans. The Impact and Development Officer will research prospective funding opportunities, manage external relations, coordinate site visits, and support the Director of Development and Communications, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, Programs Director, and Executive Director in the creation and revision of concept notes, reports, and databases.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the organization’s resource development strategies, including but not limited to stewardship of donors, identifying new funding opportunities, and communications strategies.
  • Draft grant funding proposals and collaborate on the preparation of interim and final grant reports.
  • Support the collection and documentation stories of impact from staff and beneficiaries, including interviews, photos and videos.
  • Support of monitoring and evaluation activities: data entry and analysis, synthesize monitoring and evaluation data for use in publications and reports. 
  • Support WJI’s communications strategy that includes the website, social networks, e-blasts, newsletters, printed materials, annual reports, and other communications materials such as presentations and program summaries.
  • Research and cultivate new opportunities to increase revenue from foundations, corporations, and individual donors. Develop proposals to individuals and organizations to secure funding.
  • Develop and facilitate organizational capacity-building workshops.
  • Support technology use in WJI’s program implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Written and spoken fluency in English and Spanish
  • A minimum of two years’ demonstrated experience in fundraising and grant writing and/or monitoring and evaluation work. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel)
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, GlobalGiving, Salesforce (or comparable CRM Software), WordPress, and/or MailChimp
  • Ability to stay organized, work systematically, and pay close attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and desire to take initiative
  • Team player and able to work well in collaborative groups
  • Experience living or working in Latin America preferred
  • Understanding of the Central American and/or Guatemalan context and background knowledge related to VAWG
  • Personal values that align with WJI’s mission and vision
  • Willingness to travel to rural communities
  • B.A. in International Relations, International Development, Gender Studies, Communications, or related field
