OVERVIEW:

Grads of Life's mission is to close the Opportunity Gap that separates diverse talent pools and the companies that will benefit from hiring them. We help employers to design and implement inclusive talent strategies which promotes economic opportunity, stability and mobility for all. We accomplish this through our Advisory Services, where we work closely with employers to design practice change solutions, including human capital strategies. Our research, learnings, and strategic communications are then promoted by our Thought Leadership team which collectively advances the broader movement of employers committed to lasting change across our country.

The Director, Marketing & Communications, reports directly to the Senior Director and will lead the Grads of Life marketing and communication strategy and assets, including GradsofLife.org, social media channels, analytics, content marketing, and campaigns. Grads of Life is incubated by Year Up and is a separate program and team focused on influencing the human capital strategy and processes of large employers.

To be successful in this role, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires you to juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines in a calm, professional manner, while always moving with a sense of urgency and adaptability. Your written and verbal communication skills will be second to none, and you will enjoy marketing, communications, project management, strategic thinking, design and presenting information to a variety of stakeholders. You will need to also have a deep understanding of the Opportunity Gap and be able to effectively and persuasively communicate our mission to a variety of audiences. You will not shy away from reaching out to others to build relationships and effectively communicate the mission of Grads of Life and the organization as a whole.

In keeping with Year Up values, the Director of Marketing and Communications will have the opportunity to interact with students as coach, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in creating and sustaining a positive educational environment, with trust among students, faculty, and site leaders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing and Communications Strategy

  • Create and execute marketing and communications strategy for Grads of Life
  • Work across the Grads of Life team to create marketing and sales materials that accurately reflect the offerings of the team
  • Identify and manage resources to execute strategy across creative, communications, and analytics categories, including management of marketing and digital assets
  • Manage and build communications team to execute against strategy
  • Serve as primary project manager for GradsofLife.org and Grads of Life social media channels, setting strategy for and monitoring the performance of all aspects of the website to drive online engagement and community
  • Serve as point person for all work with external website partners, inclusive of the Grads of Life Forbes blog

Design and Content Creation

  • Lend additional capacity to address the writing, design and ad hoc needs of the team
  • Tell stories that are clear and distill complex topics into accessible and influential content and convey the impact of Grads of Life work
  • Proactively identify opportunities for content development, including developing, capturing, and curating blog and social content, case studies, stakeholder quotes, high-quality photography, and videos
  • Ensure amplification of content through appropriate channels


Team Management

  • Manage and grow team
  • Develop and coach direct reports in maximizing their potential

Team Member

  • Serve as a leader on team, reinforcing values, culture, leadership priorities, and operating principles
  • Advise and consult across the innovation team within Year Up
  • Take on ad hoc support of projects as necessary

Site Team/Learning Community Member

  • Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of current students
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings

    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years of experience in marketing, communications or related fields
  • Superb interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with quick turnaround and attention to detail
  • Strong aesthetic sense and intuitive understanding of what makes a truly great interactive experience
  • Strong communication skills, with experience presenting to executives
  • Marketing experience, digital asset management, and design skills
  • Familiarity with content management systems and website management
  • Experience managing teams and leading projects
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information quickly
  • Outstanding time management skills with proven ability to be nimble, multi-task, accomplish numerous tasks and change priorities in an effective and timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to execute on short-term, deadline-driven daily tasks, as well as important long-term projects requiring collaboration with internal and external constituencies
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude, with a willingness to be flexible and do whatever it takes to get the job done
  • Professional and positive market-driven approach
  • A passion for working with young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up
