JOB MISSION

YPIE programs are focused on preparing students with the academic and life skills needed for college success. The more ready students are for college, the higher the likelihood they’ll succeed. YPIE is seeking a Site Director of YPIE Science Research to:

  • Replicate YPIE in Nashville, TN
  • Cultivate key relationships with Nashville Metro Public Schools and other local partners
  • Provide college access and enrollment services to juniors and seniors in the YPIE program that will result in student enrollment, persistence, and completion at a 4-year college. 


RESPONSIBILITIES & RESULTS

  • Senior Leadership
  • Establish YPIE Nashville, a brand new site that will reflect the values, program model, entrepreneurial culture, and success of the original YPIE Yonkers site.
  • Manage YPIE Nashville staff and teachers
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, develop and manage an annual plan, program budget, calendar, and Yonkers-aligned operations system. 
  • Establish key systems and processes that align with Tennessee requirements.
  • Develop an annual program budget, program plan and calendar.
  • Partnerships & Communications
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with Nashville community partners including:
  • the school district - high school and central office administrators and staff
  • students and families
  • higher education institutions
  • business and government leaders
  • volunteers
  • Work with the Senior Director of Communications to develop program materials (ie. overviews for marketing and website), creating communications that engage YPIE supporters, partners, and other members of the YPIE community.
  • Recruit a local Nashville Advisory Board to ensure successful programming, fundraising and a clear, mission-aligned strategic direction.
  • Serve as a visible thought leader by participating in ongoing Nashville community engagement activities and meetings.
  • Contribute to the preparation of compelling and persuasive grant applications and reports for corporate, foundation, and government donors.
  • Collaborate with MNPS school partners to recruit 9th grade students for the initial class of YPIE Nashville science research scholars.
  • Oversee the Implementation of the YPIE Science Research Program: After-school group science research skills classes to prepare students to conduct original science research. Oversee staff who will:
  • Ensure each student attends their group class four hours per week (twice a week/2 hours class). 
  • Use a variety of strategies to increase thinking and talking done by students, planning well-sequenced and engaging lessons toward academic objectives.
  • Grading: Provide quarterly updates on grades for each student
  • Individual biweekly meetings: Meet with every student one-on-one approximately twice a month (~40 mins), creating individualized goals and action plans for student research.
  • Summer & expert support: Cultivate a group of volunteers for student support and research placements, facilitating aligned summer opportunities for each student. 
  • Science Fair Participation: Prepare students for outward-facing competitions and events such as MTSEF, Regeneron Science Talent Search, and end-of-year symposium.
  • College Access
  • Provide individualized grade level college guidance to assigned junior and senior YPIE students including, but not limited to: assessing each student’s college aspirations and goals; review of transcript; confirming Naviance access; creation of appropriate/good fit college lists including Selective Colleges that Meet Demonstrated Need, YPIE partner colleges, financially safe colleges and Reach, Target and Safety schools; supporting students through college essay process, assistance completing and submitting college applications; assistance completing FAFSA/CSS documents and scholarship applications; analysis of final school acceptances and financial aid packages to guide students to make college commitments. 
  • Meet with and include parents/guardians one-on-one or in groups on all aspects of the process.
  • Advocate to college admissions officers on behalf of students when appropriate.
  • Plan and chaperone students on YPIE college visits.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain up to date
  • Effective Professional Relationships with Students
  • Develop strong professional relationships with students in order to provide targeted and comprehensive support.
  • Coach each student around accessing resources, connecting students to crucial YPIE and external resources as necessary and holding students accountable for milestones to achieve their goals.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to assist in providing services to YPIE students.
  • Family Engagement
  • Maintain active, collaborative relationships with key family figures in students' lives, coordinating to address students’ challenges and reinforce goals.
  • Facilitate meetings involving a family figure for each students

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters/Certification in counseling or related field preferred
  • Ability to navigate partnerships with diverse stakeholders
  • Proven organizational and program tracking skills
  • Public speaking skills
  • 2+ years experience providing college guidance to low income, first generation, and/or students of color
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public and private colleges/universities, opportunity programs and financial aid requirements
  • Prior experience with Naviance and/or other databases
  • Ability to make arrangements for daily travel/transitions between program sites
  • Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours as student needs arise

  • Experience working with, tracking, and analyzing data to target student support and evaluate effectiveness
  • Spanish fluency
