Freedom Action Now, Inc. is a 501(c4) organization based in Madison WI. Through voter engagement, powerful grassroots campaigns, we seek to electoralize the issues Black and Southeast Asian Womxn, Youth, Queer, Trans, and Intersex folx across Wisconsin hold dear, and to codify our collective demands into policy, which will change the conditions that facilitate our oppression.

Our vision is to empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault to be protagonists in the on-going struggle for liberation, so that we may have a political vehicle to advance our feminist agenda.

Operations Manager

Job Summary:

The operations manager will lead, oversee, and direct the staff responsible for the organization’s administrative services, including tracking of the organization’s expenses. The purpose of this position is to ensure that administrative functions run smoothly, streamlining the day-to-day operations of the organization. The successful candidate must possess strong leadership skills, analytical and strategic thinking abilities, ability to multitask, and superior interpersonal skills. 

Essential Functions:

Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization, developing operating procedures and policies, managing administrative staff, guiding operating methods, monitoring budgets, improving information systems, and overseeing human resources requirements.

Key functions of this position will include:

  • Hiring and training administrative staff, negotiating contracts and agreements with vendors and contractors, maintaining corporate relationships, monitoring and budgeting operating expenses, liaising with HR and other organizational subunits and updating executives on business performance, ensuring that operations are in alignment with the values of Freedom Action Now, Inc. and its affiliate 501 C3, Freedom Inc.
  • Ensuring the organization’s compliance with applicable health, building, zoning, and safety licensing and certification requirements; overseeing facilities management, fulfillment, shipping/receiving, mailroom, inventory control, on-site and off-site storage, purchasing and telecommunications system.
  • Administering grants from various state and federally funded programs as well as private donors, assisting in compiling and submitting grant applications, and monitoring and ensuring compliance with all requirements for awarded grants.
  • As needed: Representing the Executive Director and organization at various meetings, functions, and events; serves as a liaison to various civic or governmental organizations and committees, task forces, boards, and commissions; confers regularly with officials from the state, authorities, and commissions; provides information about operations; participates in discussions and decisions; and keeps the Executive Director apprised of activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration and or non-profit management or a field related to assigned operation, or equivalent technical experience and certification
  • Five years of experience in business administration or similar, including three years in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
  • Knowledge and experience working with a 501 C4 is desired

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Interpersonal Skills: Requires the ability to work with a variety of personalities with the ability to guide others in coordinating activities of a project, program, or designated area of responsibility. 
  • Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or softwares (including G Suites). Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with Word, Excel and Outlook. 
  • Communication: Requires the ability to communicate and re-present information in a wide variety of ways, including written and oral communication. 
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division); the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs and charts.
  • Must have at least 4 years of professional/community experiences working with Black and Southeast Asian communities.
  • Must have a good understanding of refugee/immigrant/underserved population experiences and cultures
  • Must Understand gender diversity, gender/racial/Queer justice and be comfortable working with teens, girls, and folks who identity as LGBTQI
  • Must understand the ramifications and impact of sexual assault and domestic violence on a wide range of different family types and communities
  • Bi-Culturalism/Bilingualism is preferred

Location

This position will be located in Wisconsin. Due to COVID19 remote work is available but upon further development surrounding the pandemic, will be required to work in the local Wisconsin office. If you are applying out of state, relocation will be required once health and safety measures are established for working in the local office.
