The Operations and Special Projects Manager role is a unique opportunity to support a growing team at a lean and high performing organization. This position will be a critical operational support for the finance, accounting, and talent teams while managing operations and ensuring effective team support of initiatives. Although you will work closely with your supervisor, this position is expected to exercise a high degree of autonomy and take on significant responsibility. An ideal candidate will have broad interests and background knowledge in nonprofit operations management.

Responsibilities

Operations Management for GDI’s Finance and Talent Teams

  • Conduct research in response to specific inquiries.
  • Develop tools for incubated initiatives, including systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a thought partner to sharpen the work of other staff, reviewing recommendations, providing feedback, and refining drafts and products.
  • Researching and providing recommendations on a wide range of vendors, including running procurement processes as appropriate.
  • Provide short term backup during high intensity periods, as examples this might include such diverse tasks as budget development, overseeing a recruitment process, selecting employment benefits, preparing a training deck, subawardee assessment, auditor RFPs, or setting up and training on a new system for GDI or one of our partner organizations.

Operations Management for GDI and our Incubated Initiatives

  • Review and manage contracts.
  • Support the launch of subsidiary legal entities, including understanding legal structuring options for both GDI and our partners.
  • Manage GDI’s insurance plans.
  • Act as a clearing house on work with outside counsel, including cataloguing and documenting learning.

Coordination and Quality Assurance

  • Coordinate the GDI teams work across team as we support external initiatives. This includes ensuring that all critical activities are assigned an owner and outlier or irregular activities are effectively tracked and managed.
  • Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the team’s work and recommend areas and solutions for refinement.

General

  • Provide additional support as requested.


Qualifications

Required Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field and a minimum of ten years of experience in a relevant role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Razor-sharp problem-solving skills.
  • Able to systematize and churn through a large volume of information and responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational skill and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven aptitude to manage many competing projects and priorities.
  • Able to move fluidly between collaborative and independent work styles.
  • Adept at making assessments quickly and identifying the best course of action.
