Job Opening:     Dean of Student Activities & Athletics

Reports To:       Principal & Assistant Principal

Status:                 Full Time, Exempt

                                                                                                                                                                                            

I. Student Activities

The Dean of Student Activities & Athletics is responsible for helping to cultivate a positive school culture at RKHS by

ensuring that all school-wide events and activities are planned successfully and effectively, with student safety in

mind, and represent student voice. The Dean works collaboratively with the Principal, Assistant Principal of Culture,

and Student Government representatives to develop and execute event plans, coordinate logistics, and lead

communication around such events. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


●       Work collaboratively with Principal and Assistant Principal of Culture to plan, schedule, and execute

○        Life Experience Lessons (Trips) (BOTY 9th grade LEL, Senior Summit, City LELs)

○        School-wide cultural activities (Spirit Weeks, Dances, assemblies, talent shows, etc.)

○        Senior events (Graduation & Grad night, etc.)

○        Enrollment Events (Step Up Day, New Student Orientation, Triton BBQ, etc.)

●       Monitor and update school website and social media accounts 

●       Join AP of Culture in weekly Student Government meetings

●       Push relevant Student Announcements to ADV classes

●       Lead supervision for student activities outside of regular school hours

●       Communicate with families, school staff, and outside agencies as appropriate


II. Athletics:  

The Dean of Student Activities & Athletics is responsible for leading the RKHS Athletics Program by ensuring the safety, development, and academic and athletic success of all participating students. The Dean works collaboratively with the school leadership team, teachers, and counselors to develop guidelines for monitoring and supporting student athletes’ academic, athletic, and personal growth. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


Logistics

•        Plan, schedule, and coordinate

o   All athletics games, practices, and other events.

o   All team transportation (RKHS van, public transportation, volunteer drivers).

•        Obtain necessary permits and facilities reservations and officials/referees.

•        Prepare reports, records, and forms required to document departmental activity.

•        Serve as the primary leader, contact, and supervisor at RKHS athletics events.


Communication

•        Develop, monitor, communicate and maintain a calendar of sporting events.

•        Proactively communicate with stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, coaches, community) via Parent Square, specifically upcoming events and statistics for the season.

•        Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all policies of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and other athletics leagues as applicable.

•        Develop, communicate, implement, and monitor expectations, programs, values, and policies that hold students and coaches to high conduct standards of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for self and others.


Culture

•        Develop a culture of discipline, joy, and pride in the athletics program.

•        Measure, monitor, and adapt to ensure equity of access and participation for all students and student population subgroups.

•        Welcome students and parents to campus in the morning and conduct lunch supervision, as schedule permits.


Business

•        Represent RKHS in matters concerning athletics and special events to internal and external audiences at meetings, trainings and workshops (Back to School Night, Registration, Orientation, Step Up Days, etc.).

•        Recruit, interview, and hire team coaches for all sports.

•        Hold regular meetings with RKHS coaches to ensure they have what they need to be successful.

•        Maintain a detailed budget of expenditures, to be shared with Dean of Operations.

•        Acquire, maintain, clean, and repair sports equipment as needed.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

●       Must be organized, creative, independent and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail-oriented, flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence.

●       Strong oral and written communication skills to engage with stakeholders regarding upcoming events, as well as in business correspondence.

●       Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships; demonstrated ability to communicate in situations requiring tact and poise; skilled in confidentiality and discretion.

●       Experience working with at-risk youth

●       Must get cleared to drive an RKHS athletic van.

●       HS Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

●       Bilingual (Korean/English or Spanish/English) preferred.


Salary and Benefits:

Salary:                   Negotiable, Depends on experience and education
